ISO/IEC8824-1:2015ENInformationtechnology-AbstractSyntaxNotationOne(ASN.1)isastandardpublishedbytheInternationalOrganizationforStandardization(ISO)andtheInternationalElectroTechnicalCommittee(IEC).Itdefinesastandardnotationsystemfordescribingdatastructuresandprotocolsinthefieldofinformationtechnology.ASN.1standsfor"AbstractSyntaxNotationOne"anditisageneral-purposenotationsystemthatcanbeusedtodescribecomplexdatastructuresandprotocols.Thestandardspecifiesthebasicsyntax,semantics,andrulesforusingASN.1notationtodescribedatamodelsandprotocols.ItalsoprovidesguidelinesfordesigningandimplementingASN.1specifications,includingtheuseofcommonconventionsandbestpractices.
ThemainfeaturesofASN.1notationinclude:
*Itusesahierarchicalstructuretodescribecomplexdatamodels,whichallowsforamorenaturalrepresentationofdatastructuresandrelationshipsbetweenelements.
