TermsanddefinitionsForthepurposesofthisdocument,thetermsanddefinitionsgiveninISO1891-2apply.GeneralcharacteristicsofthecoatingZincflakecoatingsystemsZincflakecoatingsystemsareproducedbyapplyingazincflakedispersiontothesurfaceofasteelfastener,usuallywiththeadditionofaluminiumflakes,inasuitablemedium.Undertheinfluenceofheat(curing),abondingamongstflakesandalsobetweenflakesandsubstrateisgenerated,thusforminganinorganicsurfacecoatingsufficientlyelectricallyconductingtoensurecathodicprotection.Thecoatingmayormaynotcontainhexavalentchromium,Cr(VI).Specialtechniquesmaybenecessarytoavoidexcessiveorinsufficientcoatingthickness.Specialtechniquesmaybenecessarytopreventlightweightand/orflatfastenersfromstickingtogether(e.g.washers,clips,fastenerswithcaptivewasher,flangednuts).Anadditionaltopcoatcanbeappliedtoincreasecorrosionresistanceand/ortoachievespecifieproperties(e.g.torque/tensionproperties,chemicalresistance,aspectcolour,electricalinsulation/conductivity-seeAx2).CompositionofthesystemsTherearefourbasiczincflakecoatingsystemsasshowninFigure1.TherearefourbasiczincflakecoatingsyslemsasshowninFigure1.1Basecoat2
