1.有些形容词只能作表语,补语,而且不能用very修饰。如:afraid(害怕),alike(相似的),alive(活的),alone(单独的),asleep(睡着的),awake(醒着的),ill(病的),ashamed(惭愧的),sure(的确的),unable(不能的),worth(值得的),well(身体安好的)等。如:这小孩熟睡了。Thebabyfellveryasleep.(错)Thebabyfellfastasleep.(正)他非常怕狗。Heisveryafraidofdog.(错)Heismuchafraidofdog.(正)2.形容词名词化,如:Thebeautifulisnotalwaysthegood,andthegoodisnotalwaysthetrue.Thericharenotalwayshappy.3.少数形容词(worth,near,like,opposite等)有介词性质,有时用作介词。如:Westayedinthehotelnearestthestation.Heismorelikeaspearthananythingelse.Theysatoppositeeachother.4.“the+形容词或副词比较级,the+形容词或副词比较级”这一句型的意思是“越……就越……”。例如:Thericheracountryis,thebetterthepeople’slifewillbe.Themorediligentyouare,thegreatersuccessyouwillachieve.Themorehehas,themorehewants.Thelighter(itis),thebetter(itis).Thesooner,thebetter.5.形容词的位置排列:1)同类形容词第一种情况是将较短的形容词放在较长的形容词前面。第二种情况是将关系较密切的形容词的放在最接近名词的地方。如:Heisatall,strongandintelligentboy.ItisaneasyandinterestingFrenchnovel.形容词的类别和放置顺序可以细分如下表:代词(形容词)⑴冠词前代词:allboth,such,what等.⑵冠词,指示代词,所有格不定代词:the,a(an),your,Tom’s,this,that,those,another,some,any等数词⑶序数词:first,second,third,fourth,fifth,next,last等.⑷基数词:one,two,three,many,much,few,little等.性状形容词⑸性质,状态形容词:kind,fine,good,side,interesting等。⑹大小、长短、形状的形容词:large,small,big,long,short,round等。⑺新旧、老幼、温度的形容词:old,new,young,cool,hot,warm等。⑻颜色的形容词:red,blue,white,green等。⑼国籍的形容词:Chinese,Japanese,English,American,French等。⑽材料的形容词:Iron,brick,stone,silk等。⑾名词、动名词boy,house,book,vase,fishing等。2)不同类形容词:“代词(形容词性)+数词+性状形容词+名词”如:a(great)bigtallpolicemanthisbeautifuloldbrownFrenchhandmadecupboardThosefivefineoldreddilapidatedhousesareunsafe.Therearemanyinterestingoldhistorybooksonthedesk.6.副词的位置:1)前位副词:疑问副词、关系副词、连接副词和一些修饰全句的副词,常在句首或主语的前面。如:actually,fortunately,certainly,surely,secondly,generally,perhaps,maybe,first,atfirst等。如:Maybeyouareright.Luckily,Peterwasthere.Certainly,weshouldtryourbesttohelphim.2)中位副词:频度副词常在动词前面,程度副词常在它所修饰词的前面。如:Sheoftendoesthis.Shealwaysworkslikethat.Sheisseldomill.Thereistoomuchice.3)后位副词:地点副词、方式副词和一些时间副词,常在句末。Everythingwentsmoothly.Youshouldn’tstayuptoolate.Irememberhavingseenhimsomewhere.7.三者比较(最高级)“the+最高级+单数名词+of(或among)+人或物+in+场所+thatsbhaveeverseen/heard/beento”等。例如:Heistheyoungestboyofthem.Sheisthemostbeautifulgirlofallthegirls.Sheisoneofthemostbeautifulgirlsinourschool.ThisisthemostexcitingfilmthatI’veeverseen.8.very与much1)very修饰形容词或副词的原形,much修饰形容词或副词的比较级,修饰动词要用much或verymuch.例如:verygood,verywell,muchbetterIlikethisfilmverymuch.2)very修饰用作形容词的现在分词。例如:veryinteresting,veryexciting,verysatisfying3)very修饰某些习惯上已被用作形容词(不管是作表语还是作定语)的过去分词。例如:averypleasedlook,averydelightedboyHeisverytired.MyEnglishisverylimited.这类词还有:frightened,disappointed,satisfied,excited,interested,pleased,surprised,troubled,worried等。但若用在by句中,就该用much来修饰。Thelittlegirlwasmuchfrightenedbythestrangenoise.4)much可以修饰动词,very则不能。修饰动词时应注意much或verymuch的位置。例如:Ienjoytheconcert(very)much.I(very)muchenjoytheconcert.5)在英国,只能用作表语的某些形容词,例如:alive,alone,afraid,ashamed等前面用much或verymuch来修饰,但在美国,往往用very,如:“veryafraid”.9.ago与beforeago表示以现在为起点的“以前”;before表示过去或将来的某时刻“以前”;泛指“以前”,用before而不用ago。例如:Istartedworkingintheschoolthreeyearsago.Lastyearheleftthearmythathehadjoinedeighteenyearsbefore.We(have)nevermetthembefore.10.fairly与ratherfairly常含有褒义,rather则多含贬义;fairly不能与too和比较级连用,而rather则可以与too和比较级连用:Johnisfairlyclever,butMaryisratherstupid.Thisboxisratherheavy,butthatoneisfairlylight.Thatcarisratherlargethanhewants.11.almost,nearly,aboutabout在修饰时间、数目等时,意义与almost,nearly不同。例如:Itisaboutthreeo’clockHeisaboutthirty.Heisnearlythirty.Itisalmost(nearly)threeo’clock.almost和nearly可以修饰形容词、副词(注意其位置),但about则不能。例如:Healmost(nearly)drowned.注意:almost可与noone连用,而nearly则不能。Almostnoonetookanyrest.12.比较级和最高级前面的程度状语:形容词和副词比较级和最高级前面加上某些副词或数词,可以提高程度或降低程度。见下表:almosttwicenearlythreetimeshalfone-thirdjustWehaveathirdasmanystudentsaswehadlastterm.+as+形容词副词原形+as+…manyalotmuchabitevenalittlestillagreatdealyethalfaheadfartwoyearsslightlyone-thirdrathertenpercenttentimestwiceIamtwoyearolderthanhe.Icamethreehoursearlierthantheothers.比较级形容词比较级副词++than+…Healthismoreimportantthanwealth.theverymuchthebyfarthefarandawaythe++名词+aboutthethesecondthethirdHainanisChina’ssecondlargestisland.muchfaragreatdeal形容词最高级副词最高级of人或物in地点theverymuchtheGoldisbyfarthemostvaluableofallmetals.farawaythe注:byfar只能在最高级前面或者在带有限制性修饰语的比较级前,否则要放在后面。如:Heisbyfarthetallestofall.Heisbyfarthetallerofthetwo.Heisbetterbyfar.13.英语中倍数的表示法:1)……倍数+形容词/副词比较级+than……(甲)比(乙)(大、长、高)多少倍。如:ThiscityisfivetimesbiggerthanthatoneThepopulationofShanghaiisnearly4timeslargerthanthatofHefei.2)……as+形容词/副词原级+as……(甲)是(乙的)多少倍。如:Thiscityis5timesasbigasthatone.Thehallistwiceasbigastheclassroom.3)……倍数+thesize/length/height+of……(甲)是(乙的)多少倍。如:Thiscityis5timesthesizeofthatone.Thebooksinourlibraryare3timesthenumberofthoseintheirs.14.当形容词比较级修饰可数名词或其本身当作可数名词时,常用many加强程度;反之,当形容词比较级修饰不可数名词或其本身当作不可数名词用时,则用much加强程度。例如:Weboughtmanymorebooksyesterday.Manymoreofthepeopletookpartintheactivity.Inthiswaymuchmoreenergycanbesaved.Muchmoreoftheairhasbeenpollutedinthatcity15.already,yet,still1)already表示某事已经发生,yet表示期待某事发生,still表示某事还在进行,主要用于肯定句。例如:He’salreadyfinishedhiswork.Hshasn’tfinish
