ble,inelectronicformat,foraccessviasoftwareproductsandsystemsbasedontheABBAspectIntegratorPlatform.2FunctionsREF542plusMultifunctionProtectionandSwitchbayControlUnitintegratesallthesecondaryfunctionsinasingleunit.Thismultifunctionalunitalsofeaturesaself-monitoringfunction.Allfunctionsaredesignedasfreelyconfigurablesoftwaremodules.Therefore,awiderangeofoperationrequirementsinMVstationscanbemetwithoutanyproblems.TheversatilityofthesoftwaremakesitpossibletousetheREF542plusoneveryswitchboardindependentonthespecificapplicationrequired.2.1ConfigurationEachapplicationforprotectionandcontrolcaneasilybeconfiguredbysoftwarefunctionmodules,whichmakearbitrarydefinitionofthefollowingfeaturesaspartofthesecondarysystempossible:LED's(meaningandcolorsforlocalindicationSingleLinediagramtoshowthestatusofswitchingdevicesProtectionschemesControlschemesInterlockingschemesAutomationsequencesAllfunctionsintheswitchbaycanbespecifiedincollaborationwithABB.Theresultoftheconfigurationissavedanddeliveredtogetherwiththeswitchboardtotheusers.Byusingthe"FUnctionalblockProgrammingLanguage”(FUPLAtheREF542plusMultifunctionProtectionandSwitchbayControlUnitoffersengineers,especiallythosewhoarenotsoftwareexperts,theopportunityofeasilyupdatingtheoperationandhandlingoftheswitchbay.WithREF542plustheuserhasthebenefitofasecondarysystemthatisfullyintegratedinatrueprogrammablecontroller.Thisflexibilityisveryadvantageousfordefiningcontrolfunctionsforautomationsequences,whichcan,forexample,includetheinterlockingoftheswitchingdevices,blockingthereleaseofspecificprotectionfunctions,aswellasstartingswitchingsequences.REF542plusmultifunctionalunitprovidesawiderangeoflogicalfunctionssothateachrequiredcontrolschemescanbeconfigured.Therangeoflogicalfunctionsincludes:ANDlogicgateNANDlogicgateORlogicgateNORlogicgateXORlogicgateBistableandmonostableflipflopCountersTimersPulsegeneratorsMemoriesSimilartothefreedefinitionofthecontrolscheme,eachrequiredprotectionschemecanbeconfiguredbythecombinationoftheavailableprotectionfunctionmodules.Forexample,thefollowingprotectionfunctionsareavailable:DefinitetimeovercurrentprotectionInversetimeovercurrentprotectionDirectionalovercurrentprotectionUnder-orovervoltageprotectionDistanceprotectionDifferentialprotectionfortransformerandmotorThermalprotectionforcable,transformerandmotorReversepowerprotectionSynchronismcheckNoteThespecificsoftwareconfigurationoftherequiredprotectionschemecanonlybecarriedoutin-houseatABB.TheprotectionschemeparameterscanbechangedviatheHMIControlUnitwithoutusingapersonalcomputer.AdditionalfunctionscanbeexcutedwithapersonalcomputerrunningtheconfigurationsoftwareandconnectedtotheopticalinterfaceonthefrontoftheHMIunit.Theseadditionalfunctionsare:Parameterizationoftheprotectionscheme,Read-outofthecurrentmeasurementvalues,Read-outofthestatusofthebinaryinputsandoutputs,Read-outofthefaultrecorderandViewingoftheFUPLAlogicI/Ostates2.2OperationAwiderangeoffunctionscanbecontrolledandoperatedusingthesimple,user-friendlyinterfaceontheHMIControlUnit.Thisuser-friendlyinterfaceisshowninthefollowingfigure.Figure6:HMIasControlUnitTheHMIconsistsofthefollowingfeatures:Theback-illuminatedLCDdisplayoftheHMIprovidesagraphicaldisplayoftheswitchingdevicesintheswitchbaycontrolledbytheREF542plus.Theintensityandthedurationoftheilluminationcanbesetasrequired.TheSingleLinediagramshowsthecurrentstatusofalltheswitchingdevices.TherighthalfoftheLCDdisplayisforplaintext,suchasmeasurementvalues,mainmenuandsubmenusdescriptions,protectionsignalsandeventrecording.OntheLCDdisplay,thefollowingcanbeshown:Uptoeightswitchingdeviceicons(whenthebinaryI/Oboardswithmechanicalrelaysareused,amaximumofsevenswitchingdevicescanbecontrolledVariousiconsformotors,transformers,sensors,transducersAmaximumof40individuallines.FoursystemLEDs,describeinthefollowingchapters,indicatethestatusoftheREF542plus.OntheHMIfrontpanel,theoperationalstatusiscalled'Ready'andisdisplayedbyagreenLED.TheunitisnotoperationalwhenthisLEDisoff,andthisoccursforexampleduringthedownloadingoftheconfigurationfortheoperationoftheswitchbayorifafaultconditionisdetectedintheCentralUnit.OntheHMIfrontpanel,thiscommunicationstatusiscalled'NetworkCommunication'.IftheREF542plusistobeconnectedtoastationautomationsystem,theappropriatecommunicationsboardisrequired.InthiscaseagreenLEDisusedtoindicatethecorrectoperationalstatusofthisoptionalboard.TheLEDcolorchangestoredifacommunicationfailurehasoccurred.Severalarbitraryalarmconditionscanbedefinedandconfiguredbytheuser.Ifoneoftheseconditionsisfulfilled,theredLEDwillbeon.TheLEDisgreenifnointerlockingconditionshavebeenviolated.Incaseofaswitchingaction,whichviolatestheinterlockconditionssuchasswitchingadisconnectorintheclosedconditionoftheCircuitBreaker(CB,thecolorwillchangetemporarilytored.Eightfreelyprogrammable,threecolorLED'sareprovidedforlocalindication.ThenumberofLEDdisplayoptionscanbequadrupledthroughthemenustructure.Asaresult,atotalof32indicationoptionsareavailableforstatusindicationregardingprotection,control,monitoringandsupervisionfunctions.ThreefreelyprogrammableLEDbarsareprovidedforshowingthemeasurementvalues.TheLEDbarsareusedtodisplayarbitrarymeasurementvaluesasrequired.EachbarconsistsoftengreenandtworedLEDs.ThenominalvaluesofeachLEDbar,whichcorrespondstothetengreenLEDsaredefinedbytheconfigurationsoftware.Ifthemeasurementvaluesarehigherthantheratedvalues,theredLEDswillgetsilluminatedindicatinganoverloadsituation.Thecontrolpushbuttonsareusedforoperationoftheswitchingdevicesduringlocalcontrol.Atotalofeightpushbuttonsareavailable,fourforcommandingtheprimaryequipmentandfourforbrowsingthedisplay.TheemergencypushbuttoncanbeconfiguredintheFUPLAtoopenthecircuitbreakerwhenpressedsimultaneouslywiththenormalopenpushbutton.Twodifferentelectronickeysareprovided.Onekeycanonlybeusedfortheprotectionschemeparametrization.Theotheroneisforcontrolmodesselection:local,remoteorlocal/remote.Byusingthesetwokeysacertainseparationbetweenprotectionandcontroloperationcanbeachieved.Ifrequiredageneralkeythatpermitsaccesstobothmodesisprovided.ThesensorforrecognizingwhichelectronickeyhasbeenusedislocatedonthefrontpaneloftheHMIControlUnit.2.3MeasurementREF542pluscanhaveamaximumof8analogueinputchannelsformeasuringcurrentandvoltagesignals.Thesechannelsareorganizedintothreegroups.Group1andgroup2havetobehomogeneous,thatmeanstheycanmeasure3currentsor3voltages.Forexample,measurementof1currentand2voltagesisnotallowed.Group3cangetanytypeofsignals:2currents,2voltages,1currentand1voltage,etc.Channel8inthecurrentREF542plusreleasecanbeusedformeasurementpurposesonly(noprotection.REF542plusanalogueinputsareveryflexible,asthisflexibilityisneededtosupportalltheprotectionfunctionsoftheunititself.Group1andgroup2canbeusedforhomogeneouscurrentorvoltagemeasurementsbothfrominstrumenttransformersandnonconventionalsensors.Group3canbeusedinaheterogeneousway,aswellwithinstrumenttransformersasalsowithsensors.Channel7ingroup3canbeusedforearthfaultcurrentwithcurrenttransformertypeinput;orforthesynchronismcheckfunctionwithvoltagetransformertypeinput.Themostcommonconfigurationusesthreecurrentandthreevoltageinputsandoneearthfaultcurrentinput.Allvaluesareshownonthedisplayasprimaryvalues.Thevaluesregisteredoveranextendedtimeperiod,forexampleenergy,numberofCBoperations,maximumandmeasurementvaluesarepermanentlysaved.Evenafterpowerinterruptionsthisdataisstillavailable.Usingthiscommonconfiguration,thefollowingmeasuredvaluesaredisplayed:Linecurrents,threephasesPhasevoltages,threephasesEarthcurrentorresidualvoltageFrequencyFromtheabovemeasuredquantitiesthefollowingvaluescanbecalculated:Linevoltages,threephasesEarthcurrentorresidualvoltageAveragevalue/maximumvaluecurrent,three-phase(determinedoverseveralminutesApparent,activeandreactivepowerPowerfactorActiveandreactiveenergyMoreover,thefollowingquantitiesformonitoringpurposescanbeprovided:OperatinghoursSwitchingcyclesTotalswitchedcurrentsMeteringpulsesfromanexternalmeteringdevice(upto102.4ProtectionTheREF542plusoffersawiderangeoffunctionsforprotection.Asmentionedbefore,awiderangeofprotectionschemesfortheprotectionofseveralsystemcomponentscanbeconfigured.Theavailableprotectionfunctionscanbecombinedtogethertoformtherequiredprotectionscheme.Figure7showsanexampleofaconfiguredprotectionscheme.Figure7:FUPLAprotectionscheme2.5ControlTheREF542pluspermitsconvenientlocaloperationwithfullinterlockingagainstswitchingerrors.TheswitchpositionofthevariousswitchingdevicesintheswitchbaycanbeshownontheLCDdisplayoftheHMIControlUnit.Iflocalcontrolmodeisselected,switchingactionscanbeinputlocallyusingthecontrolpushbuttonsontheHMIControlUnit.Switchingtoanothercontrolmodecanonlybeachievedbyusingthecorrectelectronickey.Inremotecontrolmode,onlyswitchingactionsfromaremotecontrolunitlikeastationautomationsystemarefeasible.Aspecialcontrolmode,LocalandRemote,isprovidedforuserswhowanttoperformsimultaneousLocalandRemoteswitching.Interlockingbetweentheswitchbaysconnectedtothesamebusbarsystemcanalsobetakenintoaccount.Thisrequirestheavailabilityofstatusinformationoftheswitchingdevicestoandfromotherswitchbays.Thestatusinformationmustbeprovidedeitherbyaconventional,hardwiredringbussystemorbythemoresophisticatedABBstationautomationsystem.Figure8showsanexampleofaconfiguredcontrolschemeoftheCB.Figure8:FUPLAcontrolscheme2.6EventrecordingThelast30recordedeventscanbeshownlocallyontheLCDdisplayoftheHMIunit.Theeventsaremostlyrelatedtoprotectionactivities.Aswellasdisplayingtheeventname,additionalinformationabouttheevent,time,dateandtheRMSvalueoftheshortcircuitcurrentswitchedoffbytheCBareprovided.Eacheventisstampedwiththetimeanddate.ThetimeistakenfromtheinternalclockontheREF542plus,whichcanbesynchronizedbythestationautomationsystem.Inthenextfigure,alistofrecordedeventsisshown.Figure9:EventlistontheLCDoftheHMI2.7FaultrecordingThemultifunctionalunitREF542plusisequippedwithafaultrecordermodule,whichrecordandencodeanalogandbinarydata.Thenumberofrecordeddatachannelsdependsontheinitialconfiguration.Uptosevensignalsoftheanalogchannelsand32binarysignalscanberecorded.Theanaloginputsignalsarerecordedwithasamplingrateof1.2kHzforaperiodofatleast1-secondandforamaximumof5seconds.Therecordingtimeisacombinationofpre-andpostfaulttime.Therecordsaresavedusingatypicalringbufferprocess,i.e.theoldestfaultrecordisalwaysoverwrittenwithanewone.Thenumberofsavedfaultrecordsdependsontherecordtime.Forexample,amaximumof5faultrecordscanbesavedwitharecordingtimeof1s.Faultrecordscanbeexportedandconvertedbytheconfigurationsoftware.Thetransferoffaultrecordscanbedonealsoviatheinterbay.Figure10showsarecordofacrosscountryfaultinanearthfaultcompensatedMVsystemstartingwiththeearthfault.Figure10:RecordofacrosscountryfaultinanMVsystem2.8RealtimeclockREF542plusisequippedwithaninternalrealtimeclockwhichisusedtotimestampevents.Theinternalclockisbufferedbyaspecialsupercapacitor.IncaseofDCpowersupplyfailure,thestoredelectricalenergyinthecapacitorensurescontinuedoperationoftheinternalclockforatleastanothertwohours.ThedateandtimeoftheclockcanbesetviatheHMIControlUnit.REF542plusinternalclockcanbekeptsynchronizedwithanexternalclockindifferentways.Whenconnectedtoastationautomationsystem,REF542plusissynchronizedviainterbaybususingthefacilitiesoftheusedprotocol.Ifbetteraccuracyisrequired,REF542pluscanbesynchronizedusingthededicatedIRIG-BopticalinputportandaGPSmasterclock.Figure11:SynchronizationoftheinternalclockbyaGPSmasterclock2.9ProcessinterfaceTheREF542plusMultifunctionProtectionandSwitchbayControlUnitisdesignedforconnectiontononconventionalcurrentandvoltagesensorsaswellastoinstrumentstransformers.Thankstotheirlinearcharacteristic,moderncurrentandvoltagesensorsprovidegreateraccuracyandreliabilityinsignalmeasurement.Comparedtoinstrumenttransformers,thenewsensorshavethefollowingadvantages:HighaccuracyCompactdimensionsWidedynamicrangeEasyintegrationintheswitchboardThecurrentsensorisbasedontheprincipleoftheRogowskicoilandconsistsofasingleair-coredcoil.Duetothelackofanironcore,thesaturationeffectsofconventionalcurrenttransformersdonotexistanymore.Currentsensorsarethuswellsuitedforthedeploymentofdistanceprotectionanddifferentialprotectionfunctions.Thecurrentsensormeasuresthecurrentvalueusingavoltagesignalthatisproportionaltothederivativeoftheprimarycurrentbeingmeasured.ThenumericalintegrationofthesignalisperformedusingtheDSPintheREF542plusunit.Thecurrentsensorscoverarangefrom0.5to2.0oftheratedcurrent.The80Acurrentsensorsareforexampleverysuitableforapplicationsbetweenacurrentrangeof40Ato160A.Thevoltagesensorisbasedontheprincipleoftheresistivedividerfromwhichthesignalisobtainedandisofatypethatcannotbesaturated.Therefore,thevoltagesensorislinearthroughoutthemeasuringrange.Theoutputsignalisavoltagethatisdirectlyproportionaltotheprimaryvoltage.Thenextfiguresshowsthecombinedsensors.Thecurrentandvoltagesensorsareencapsulatedintoasingleresinunit,andthatisthereasonwhytheyarereferredascombinedorcombisensors.Figure12:CombinedsensorAcapacitivedividerisincorporatedinthecombinedsensortoprovidethepowersupplyforvoltagepresenceindicatorlamps.TheoutputsignalsofthecurrentandvoltagesensorsareconnecteddirectlytotheCentralUnitoftheREF542plus,theydonotrequireadaptationtransformers.Byusingeithermodernsensorsorconventionalmeasurementtransformers,theaccuracyclass1canbefulfilled,onconditionthatthecurrentandvoltagemeasuringvaluesareintherangeofthecorrespondingratedvalues.Theprimaryswitchingdevicesaremonitoredeitherthroughtheauxiliarycontactsorthroughtherelatedsensors,whichprovidethestatusinformationofalltheswitchingcompartmentsintheswitchbay.Besidesthat,signalscomingfromauxiliarycomponentsarealsomonitored.Consequently,atthisinterfacethefollowingactionsareachieved:ControlandinterlockingoftheprimaryswitchingdeviceintheswitchbayControltheCBs,disconnectors,earthingswitchesSupervisionofthespringstatus,ofthecontinuityofCBopencoil,thestatusoftheswitchingdevice.Providingoutputpulsesignalsforexternalenergycountingsystems.ControlofthedisconnectorsdrivemotorsProvidingtheinformationregardinginternalfailure(watchdog.Theinputsofthebinarysignalsareisolatedbyanopto-coupler.Inmostapplications,binaryoutputsareimplementedwithmechanicalrelays.However,inhighlevelapplications,likeaswitchboardinwhichmotorsaredirectlydriven,staticpoweroutputsarerequired.Amaximumof3binaryI/Oboardscanbeinstalled.3DiagnosisandmonitoringTheREF542plusmonitorscontinuoslytheconditionofthesystem,includingtheswitchingdevices.Maintenancerequirementscanthusbeadaptedtotherealsystemconditioninordertoreducedowntimes.ThefollowingtableshowstheparametersmonitoredbytheREF542plus.Alltheparameterscanalsobetransmittedtoacentralcontrolsystemwheretheyareanalyzedandprocessed,sothatthediagnosticsystemscanbeprovidedwithdataforreliabilitycalculationtopredicttheremainingservicelifeandmaintenanceactions.TypeParametersmonitoredSoftwareDiagnosticofREF542plusunitElectricalAuxiliaryvoltagecircuitsPowersupplytomotoroperatorsoftheswitchingdeviceContinuityofwindingsoftheCBopeningcoilMechanicalcomponentsStateofCBoperatingmechanismspringsNumberofmechanicaloperationsGaspressurerespectivelydensityTimeCountofhourstheswitchingdeviceboardinoperation.Contactswitchingtime(fromclosed
