摘要 世界上几乎每种语言都有“否定”这个概念，但是不同的语言表达否定意义的方 法却纷繁复杂。此外，不同文化背景下的人们在何种情况下使用“否定”也不一样。 英语表达否定概念的方式具有复杂性和多样性，否定意义与否定形式几乎不对应，而 汉语中对否定的表达却表现出一定的单一性。英语中的否定词、否定词缀及否定句型 相对繁多，汉语中却几乎没有专门的否定词缀，并且否定词和否定句型相对简单。这 些结构上的差异成为了语言学习的障碍。同时，英语和汉语在否定表达和语言习惯等 方面也存在着一定的差异，这就造成了我们在理解和使用上的困难。 本文先以对比语言学，词汇学和句法学为理论基础，展开对英汉两种语言否定的 对比研究。此对比研究先以形式与意义的一致性为标准把英汉否定分为“显性否定” 和“隐性否定”，又将英汉显隐性否定在语言的词汇短语平面和句子平面分别进行研 究，找出它们表达方式的异同，并深入分析了英汉的隐性否定如何通过修辞手段实现 其各种语用目的，加深了对英汉否定的理解。 此外，本文还主要选用西方语言哲学家g r i c e 的会话合作原则、l e e c h 的礼貌原 则及顾日国的汉语礼貌理论，分析了英汉否定在使用中都出于礼貌的考虑而违反合作 原则，遵守礼貌原则。英汉文化的差异也导致了在几种典型的场合( 如接受礼物、接 受称赞、拒绝邀请等) 中，说英语的人往往更倾向于遵守合作原则中的质量准则和礼 貌原则中的赞誉及一致准则而采用肯定的方式；说汉语的人往往遵从礼貌原则或顾日 国提出的汉语礼貌理论中的谦虚及自贬原则而采用否定的表达方式。 对英汉否定的形式及语用情景进行了详细对比之后，本文还探讨了英汉否定与文 化的因果关系。英汉否定的形式和使用上的差异主要源于各自不同的文化背景。种种 文化差异导致了英汉民族不同的价值观念及思维模式，进而反映到英汉对否定意义的 表达和运用的多样性和复杂性上。 因此，语言学习者对目的语否定表达的理解与运用，不仅要注意到语法上英汉结 构表征的不同，还要注意英汉否定各自不同的语用价值，注意培养跨文化语用学习能 力。本文的研究旨在从理论和实践两个方面进一步提高对英汉表达否定意义的各种语 言现象的认识，减少否定学习中的不利因素。 关键词：否定，显性否定，隐性否定，修辞手段，语用原则，文化 i i a b s t r a c t t h ec o n c e p to fn e g a t i o ni sl i n g n i s t i c a l l yu n i v e r s a lf o ra l m o s ta l lt h el a n g u a g e si nt h e w o r l d ，b u tl a n g u a g e sd i f f e ri nw a y sa n dd e g r e * so fc o m p l e x i t yt or e a l i z et h ec o n c e p to f n e g a t i o n p e o p l ei nd i f f e r e n tc u l t u r e st e n dt ou s et h e i rc u l t u r e s p e c i f i cn e g a t i o n sw h e n c o n f r o n t i n gt h es a m es i t u a t i o n s c o m p l e x i t ya n dd i v e r s i t yi nf o r ma r et h em a i n f e a 蛔e so f e n g l i s hw h e r et h ei n c o n g r u i t yo fn e g a t i v ef o r ma n dn e g a t i v em e a n i n ge x i s t s -
