As a fantasy reader, I had read Eragon and became interested in the mystical land of Alagaesia. Why, then, did the thought of the movie Eragon displease me? The answer was quite simple: There is too much story to cover. It is nearly impossible to cram(塞入)all the information from the book into a two-hour film; the book itself is over 500 pages.Even though my expectations were low, I still hurried to see one of my favorite books transformed into a movie. While I was watching it, an unexpected thought came to me: its not that bad. Maybe its just because I wasnt expecting much, but walking out of that theatre I felt that it had been worth every penny. Eragon isnt without its flaws(瑕疵), however. There are a few things here and there that I would change. The pace seems a bit fast, but other than that and a few plot changes, the film is quite good.If you, however, have read the book and headed to the theatre carrying your copy of Eragon, expecting to read the scenes from the book as they happen on the screen, lets just say you wont be reading much. Many scenes are cut or changed, but if you have read the book, dont be disheartened, the movie has its own style and I still enjoyed it. The landscape is beautiful and the flying scenes are impressive. The acting is well done and the battle scenes are extraordinary. I most definitely recommend this film, whether you have read the book or not. 16. The writers purpose in writing the passage is to _.A. express his disappointment at a movieB. tell us a best-selling novel来源:学*科*网Z*X*X*KC. advise us to see a new movieD. compare the novel with the movie17. We can learn from the first paragraph that the movie Eragon _. A. will make the novel more popular B. will make the sale of the novel difficult C. is better than the novel D. would not include all the information of the novel18. After watching the film, the author thought it was _.A. worth seeing though its not perfectB. bad though some scenes are interestingC. unnecessary to make some great changes to the original novelD. unnecessary to watch if you have read the book19. Which of the following is NOT true according to this passage?A. The novel is well written.B. There are battle scenes in the movie.C. The movie has no special style.D. The novel is popular with readers.20. From the passage, we can infer that _. A. audiences should read original novels before watching moviesB. movies neednt include all the information of the original novels C. the movie cant be changed from the long novelD. a good movie should have flying scenes and beautiful landscapeBGrowing up in Philadelphia, Lieberman started cooking with his stay-at-home dad when he was seven. His food-loving family had two kitchens, and he quickly learned what was the best way to bake his cakes. Lieberman improved his kitchen skills greatly during a year abroad before college, learning from a cook in Italy and studying local specialities(地方特色菜) in Germany, Spain and France. At Yale, he was known for throwing dinner parties, single-handedly frying and baking while mixing drinks for dozens of friends. Just for fun, he and some friends decided to tape a show named Campus Cuisine about his cooking. Lieberman was a real college student showing his classmates how to do things like making drinks out of dining-hall fruit. That helped the show become very popular among the students. They would stop Lieberman after classes to ask for his advice on cooking. Tapes of the show were passed around, with which his name went beyond the school and finally to the Food Network.Food Network producer Flay hopes the young cook will find a place on the network television. He says Liebermans charisma is key. “Food TV isnt about food anymore,” says Flay. “Its about your personality and finding a way to keep peoples eyeballs on your show.” But Lieberman isnt putting all his eggs in one basket. After taping the first season of the new show, Lieberman was back in his own small kitchen preparing sandwiches. An airline company was looking for someone to come up with a tasteful, inexpensive and easy-to-make menu to serve on its flights, Lieberman got the job.21. Many teens struggle not to lose their identity once they become part of a group of friends. Sometimes youre going to disagree or not be the most popular member of the group, however, you will always feel youve been true to yourselfand that you havent become somebody elses clone.Avoid Gossip(流言). Friends dont spread rumours(谣言)about other friends. If youve heard something shocking about someone, find a considerate way of asking them about it personally. If youre not sure how to talk to them about it, seek the advice of one other trusted friend, but dont let the discussion turn into a free for all about everything you dont like about the person. You certainly wouldnt be happy if someone did that to you, so set a good example for othersand for yourself._. When a friend of yours is making not-so-great decisions about drugs, alcohol, or studyingdo your best to look out for them. This doesnt mean telling them what to do constantly, but you can offer gentle advice and guidance from time to time. If you give advice in a caring way that shows you value your friends and respect their feelings and wishes, theyre much more likely to pay attention. When somebody questions the honesty of one of your friends, its a good chance to show your friends that you have faith in them by standing up for their reputation. Whenever you can, emphasize(强调)that your friend is a good person who deserves the respect of others, even when they make mistakes. This is a good way to protect them.Return the Favour. There are times when a friend will lend you a textbook or a shoulder to cry on. A good friend will pick you up when youre stuck in a rainstorm and listen patiently when you share a problem with them. Be sure that youre equally as generous with your time, your emotions and your possessions.26. What would probably be the best title of the passage?(Please answer within 5 words.)_27. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 4 with proper words(Please answer within 5 words.)_28. Give one example to show how you protect your friends(Please answer within 30 words.)_. Dear Ms Li, Im very happy to have you as our English teacher._答案与解析1. depend on“依赖于”。take off“起飞”;set up“建立”;break out“爆发”。2. C one代替a car,作a car的同位语,that引导定语从句修饰one。3. 4. A be blessed with“享有的福气”。5. A as if在此引导省略的状语从句。as if to say something(=as if he wanted to say something),表示“他似乎/好像要说什么”。6. C。7. A keep in touch/contact“保持联系”。8. C make up“和好,和解”;turn up“出现,露面”;put up“举起”;show up“露面”。 in return“作为报答”。10. C The first time在此处引导时间状语从句,相当于When I first。11. 13. D keep in touch“保持联系”。 本句考查虚拟语气,表示与过去相反的事实用would/could/might+have done。故选C。15. D try to persuade“尽力去说服”,I can tryyou to stay为定语从句,省略了作try的宾语的关系代词that。16. 根据文章第一段中的最后一句“It is nearly impossible to cram all the information from the book into a two-hour film; the book itself is over 500 pages.”可知。18. 由第四段中的最后一句“Many scenes are cut or changed, but if you have read the book, dont be disheartened, the movie has its own style and I still enjoyed it.”可知。20. 21. B 根据第一段中“His food-loving family had two kitchens”可知。22. 根据文章第一段中的最后一句“Tapes of the show were
