In1987,constructionbeganinacivilrightscenterhousedwithin

betterunderstandtheeventsoftheAmericanCivilRightsMovement.

In1991,themuseumopeneditsdoorstothepublic.Tenyearslater,

thegroundwasbrokenagainforamulti-million-dollarexpansion
