1.Vision

Theadvancementofinformationandcommunicationtechnologiesisusheringintheeraof6G,whichpromisestorevolutionizeourdigitalexperiences.Expectedtobuilduponthefoundationslaidby5G,6Gaimstodeliverricher,moreimmersiveexperiences,achieveubiquitouscoverage,andfosternewformsofcollaboration.Asanext-generationtechnology,6Gispoisedtoenableaplethoraofnovelapplication

scenarioswhileenhancingexistingfunctionalities.

TheInternationalTelecommunicationUnionRadiocommunicationSector(lTU-R)hassetforthavisionforthecapabilitiesofIMT-2030,encompassingboththeenhancementofcurrent5Gcapabilitiesandtheintroductionofbrand-newfunctionalitiestargetedspecificallyat6G,Thesecapabilitiesarecategorizedintotwomaingroups:theenhancement

ofexisting5Gcapabilitiesandnewcapabilitiestargetedat6G.

AICapabilities:NativeAIin6GnetworksmeansconsideringAIduringthedesignphase.AIcapabilitiesempowertheentirenetwork,includingaccessnetworks,corenetworks,andendpoints.Furthermore,6Gnetworkintelligenceisinherentlyendowedwitheachnetworkfunctionandtheentirenetwork,achievingautonomousoperationofnetworkservices,business,andfunctions,trulybecomingahigh-levelautonomousnetwork,andservingasapivotandfoundationforenabling

intelligentindustries,withouthumaninterventionforself-monitoring,

self-organizing,self-optimizing,andself-repairing.

CommunicationandSensingConvergenceCapability:The6Gnetworkwillincorporatenewsensingcapabilitiestosupportintegratedcommunicationandsensingscenarios.Thisconvergenceleveragestheextensivereachofmobilecommunicationnetworkstonotonlyenhancecommunicationabilitiesbutalsoempowerthenetworkwithhigh-precisionsensing.Thisdualfunctionalityfacilitatestheintelligentconnectionofallthings,creatingasynergybetweencommunicationand

sensingthatwasnotpossiblewithpreviousgenerationsofnetworks.

DataServiceCapability:Withtheproliferationofintelligentapplicationscenariosandthedeepeningintegrationofpassivesystems,6Gnetworkswillbehometomassiveamountsofheterogeneousdata.Toeffectivelymanagethisdatadeluge,itisimperativethatdataservicesbeincorporatedintothenetworkarchitecture.Theshiftfromcentralizedtodistributeddataservicesrepresentsasignificantevolutioninhowdataisprocessed.Bydistributingdataservicesclosertothesource,6Gnetworkscanofferreal-timeprocessing,therebyprovidingfasterresponsetimes.Additionally,thenativeAIcapabilitiesof6Grequirevastamountsofdataformodeltraining,furtherunderscoringtheimportanceofefficientdatamanagement.Assuch,6Gnetworksmustbecapableofdeliveringsecureandefficientdataservicesbothinternallyandexternallytoenhancedata

flowefficiencyanduserexperience.

UbiquitousComputingCapability:Thelimitationsofcentralizedcloudcomputingarebecomingincreasinglyapparent,especiallyinscenariosthatdemandlowlatency,highbandwidth,andreal-timeprocessing—suchasimmersivecloudXR,autonomousdriving,andotheradvancedapplications.Tomeetthesediversecomputingneeds,6Gwillleveragedistributedcomputilitydeployments.Thisapproachensuresthatcomputingresourcesareavailablewhereverandwhenevertheyareneeded,providingatrulyubiquitouscomputingcapability.Suchadaptabilityisessentialformeetingthedemandsofpervasiveintelligent

applicationsandcateringtoavarietyofdataservicerequirements.

UbiquitousConnectivity:Ahallmarkof6Gnetworkswillbetheirabilitytoofferwide-areaconnectivitythatspansvariousenvironments,includingsky,earth,air,andsea.Thiscomprehensivereachaimstosatisfytheheterogeneousaccessscenariosandperformancerequirementsofdiverseapplicationareas.Bymaintainingconsistentuserexperiencesacrossdifferentlocations,6Gnetworkswilltacklechallengesrelatedtoconnectivity,coverage,capacity,datarates,andterminalmobility.Ubiquitousconnectivityisfundamentalforenablinguserstoseamlesslytransitionbetweenenvironmentswhileenjoyinghigh-quality,

uninterruptedservice.

2.Requirement

In5G,theseparationofsoftwareandhardwarethroughvirtualization

andcontainerizationtechnologies,coupledwiththeintroductionofa

servicedarchitecture,allowsthenetworktohaveacertaindegreeof

flexibilityandscalability,buttherearestillsomeproblemsthatneedtobe

solvedduetothelimitationsofthe5Garchitecture.

•CentralizedNetworkModel:Thecentralizednatureof5G

networkspresentslimitationsintermsofdeploymentand

customizationforfutureapplications.Italsoposesasinglepointoffailurerisk,whereanissueatonecentralnodecouldimpact

theentirenetwork.

•RudimentaryUserRequirementManagement:5Gnetworksemploynetworkslicingtodifferentiateservicesbutstillhavea

relativelyuniformarchitectureandlogicalfunctiondivision

amongslices.Thisapproachlacksthegranularityneededto

effectivelycatertodiversescenariosanticipatedin6G.

•InsufficientNetworkFunctionSinking:While5Genableslocal

dataservicesthroughuser-planefunctionsinkingandprivate

networkestablishmentforcertainToC(Technologyof

Consumer)andToB(TechnologyofBusiness)applications,its

centralizedmanagementisinadequateforabroaderspectrumof

industrialuses.Additionally,thelackofinterconnectivity

betweenprivatenetworkshindersflexibleresourceallocation.

•SeparateDevelopmentofArithmeticNetworkandMobile

CommunicationNetwork:Thecurrentdivisionbetween

arithmetic(computational)networksandmobilecommunication

networksleadstoasituationwherecomputationalresources

cannotbeefficientlyutilizedduetolackofintegration.

Centralizedcloudcomputingisnotsufficientforlow-latency,

high-bandwidth,real-timeapplicationssuchasimmersivecloud

XRandautonomousdriving.Thisseparationneedstobe

addressedtoimprovecollaborationandreducelatency.

•Chimney-TypeDataServices:In5G,dataservicesareorganized

insilos,whichhindersdataqualityandefficiency.This

chimney-typestructurebecomesabottleneckindatacollection

andsharing.Additionally,thestorage,interfaces,anddata

managementprotocolsvaryacrossdifferentgenerationsof

communicationnetworks,creatingcompatibilityissues.

•NetworkIntelligencePlug-inandStrongCoupling:The

networkintelligencein5Gisoftenimplementedasaplug-in,

withAIfunctionsprovidedbyindependententitiesinsideor

outsidethenetwork.Thisresultsinahighdegreeofcoupling

betweenAIcomponents.ThefragmentednatureofnetworkAI

applicationscenariosandresearchrequiresamoreintegratedandstreamlinedapproachtofacilitatebroaderusecasesand

smootheroperation.

Inordertomeetthedemandfor6Gmulti-scenariodifferentiation,6G

networkinnovationisrequired.

•NetworkFlexibility:Emergingapplicationssuchasholographic

communication,immersiveXR(ExtendedReality),sensory

interconnection,Telematics,andautonomousdrivinghave

diverseperformancerequirementsintermsofdelay,reliability,

throughput,etc.Thisnecessitatesthat6Gnetworksmustbe

flexibleandscalabletorapidlyadapttothesevariedneeds.

•DeeperServitization:Theconceptofservitization,whichrefers

tothetransformationofproductsintoservices,needstogo

deeperinthenetwork.Thisincludesenhancingtheservitizationofthecorenetworkcontrolplane,extendingittotheuserplane,

thentotheRadioAccessNetwork(RAN),andfinallytothe

UserEquipment(UE).Thegoalistoachieveend-to-end

servitizationoftheentirenetwork.

•DistributedArchitecture:Scenarioslikecloudgamingand

immersiveXRrequiretemporary,largebandwidth,and

low-latencyaccessservices.Holographiccommunicationand

Telematicsnotonlyneedhighbandwidthandultra-lowlatency

butalsodemanddataservices,AIservices,andcomputation

services.Applicationslikefederatedlearningmustconsiderthelocationofdatasources,computationalresources,andlatency,

requiringdynamicconfigurationofnetworkfunctionsand

resources.Theseneedspushthenetworktowardsaflexible,

end-to-enddistributedarchitecturethatcanprovideubiquitous

connectivityandproximitynetworkservices,alongwith

real-timeornear-real-timequalityofservicemonitoringand

managementcapabilitiestosatisfydiverseuserdemands.

•Multi-factorOn-DemandIntelligentOrchestration:The

adventofnewapplicationssuchasholographiccommunication,immersiveXR,sensoryinterconnection,connectedvehicles,and

autonomousdrivingdemandmorethanjustconnectivity

servicesfrom6Gnetworks.Thesescenariosrequireperception

services,intelligentservices,dataservices,andarithmetic

(computational)services.Consequently,6Gnetworksmustbecapableofcross-layerandmulti-layerintelligentorganization

basedonuserneedstoprovideacomprehensiverangeof

services.

•End-Edge-Network-CloudCollaboration:Forcomputational

services,6Gnetworksareexpectedtoevolvetowardsa

distributedmulti-tieredcomputingcollaborationframeworkthat

integrates"cloud,network,edge,end,andindustry".This

architecturewillinvolvethecloudhandlinglarge-volumeandcomplexcomputationsalongwithalgorithmtraining,theedge

focusingonagileaccessandlocalcomputation,andthe

endpointbeingresponsibleforpervasivecomputingtaskslike

sensingandinteraction.Asbusiness,data,andAImovetowardsdistributeddevelopment,efficientcollaborationbetweencloud,

edge,andendpointcomputingresourcesbecomesessential.

•DataCollaborationandDataSharing:Recognizingthe

naturallydistributednatureofdata,thereisaneedforaunifieddataserviceframeworkthatmanagesandschedulesthelifecycle

ofdataservicestoenhanceefficiency.Centeredarounduser

demands,thisinvolvesaglobalperspectiveondatasource

selection,networkelementfunctionconfiguration,network

topologydesign,andotherdataserviceunits.Theseelements

mustbeorganizedinanorderlymanner,withreal-timeanalysisconductedbyjointedgedataservicestogenerateservicesthat

meettherequirements.

•EndogenousIntelligence:Arithmeticanddataresourcesare

ubiquitous,andintegratingnetworkandterminalarithmeticnear

thedatasourcetorealizeintelligentcapabilitiesandprovide

intelligentservicescanimproveprocessingefficiency,reduce

datatransmissioncosts,reducelatency,protectdataprivacy,and

realizegreenandlow-carbon.

3.Architecture

3.1ArchitectureDesignPrinciples

Thearchitecturedesignfor6Gnetworksmustbeapproachedfromaholisticperspective,aligningwiththekeycapabilityindexesproposedbytheInternationalTelecommunicationUnionRadiocommunicationSector(ITU-R).Thedesignshouldaccommodatenewscenariosandtechnologieswhileallowingfortheseamlessevolutionfrom5Gto6G

networks.Thefollowingdesignprinciplesarecrucial:

Simplicity:

The6Gnetworkisenvisionedasaconvergedairandspaceintegratednetwork.Asthescaleofnetworkaccessgrowsanddemandsbecomemorediverse,simplicityinarchitectureandprotocolsisessential.Thissimplicityenablesefficientdatatransmissionandon-demandnetworkfunctiondeployment.Itaimstoprovidealightweightandflexibleclosed-loopnetworkthateffectivelyreducesenergyconsumptionand

avoidsunnecessarynetworkredundancy.

Convergence

The6Gnetworkaimstomovebeyondtraditionalunidimensional

communicationandtransmissionservices.Itwillintegratecapabilities

suchassensinganddataprocessingtooffermulti-dimensionalinternalandexternalinformationservices.Byfullyleveragingthenetworkresourceplatform,itcansupportcomprehensivelife-cycleservicesfor

thedevelopmentofafullyinformationalsociety.

Flexibility

6Gaimstoimplementafull-service/programmablenetworkarchitecturethatseparatessoftwarefromhardwareresources.Thisseparationallowsforflexibleresourceallocation,enhancingthenetwork'sadaptability.Itreducesthecostsassociatedwithnetworkupgradesandreplacementsbyenablingamoremodularapproach.Thenetworkshouldprovide"plug-and-play"capabilitiesforvariousemergingapplicationscenariosandverticalindustries,allowingthemtointegrate

seamlessly.

Endogenous

The6Gnetworkarchitectureshouldincorporateendogenousintelligence,arithmetic,andsecurity.Thisintegrationaimstoachieveubiquitousnetworking,computation,andintelligence,penetratingeverydomain,network,andunitthroughouttheirentirelifecycle.Bydoingso,the6Gnetworkarchitecturewillinherentlysupportanewparadigmthatextendsbeyondtraditionalconnectivityandisdrivenbyartificial

intelligence(AI).

Openness

The6Gnetworkshouldserveasanopenplatformthatfacilitatesbusinessopportunitiesbyconnectingthenetwork'sinternalcapabilitieswithexternaldemands.Itshouldestablishrobustinteroperabilityandopenness,supportingallindividualsandenterprisescapableofinteractingwiththenetwork.Byleveragingnetworkresources,itcanoffervaluable

assistancetofurtherthedevelopmentofindustryinformatization.

3.2SystemArchitecture

Basedonthedesignprinciples,a6Gnetworkarchitectureisproposed,includinganetworkresourceandinfrastructurelayer,anetworkfunctionlayer,aserviceandcapabilityopenlayer,management

orchestration,andendogenousenablement.

Thislayerprovidesthenecessaryinfrastructureandmultidimensionalresourcesrequiredforthegenerationofnetwork

functions.Itencompassesarangeofresourcesincludingubiquitous

wireless,computing,storage,andnetworkingcapabilities.Resourcesincludeunifiedvirtualizedresources,abstractablephysicalresources,anddedicatedhigh-performancehardwareresources.Theseresourcesaretheoperationalfoundationfortheentirenetworkandaremanagedbythenetworkfunctionsoftheupperlayers.Asapass-senseintegratednetwork,itoffersdatainformationcollectioncapabilities,providingsupportforAI

applicationsthroughbigdata.

NetworkFunctionLayer

Buildingonthepervasiveinfrastructurefromthelowerlayer,thislayerinterconnectsdynamicallydistributedresources.Itenablescommunication,sensing,computation,intelligence,anddigitalsecuritynetworkfunctionsthroughtheunifiedandcooperativeschedulingofmultidimensionalresources.Thelayersupportsatomizationfunctionssuchassplitting,combining,orexpandingthatusersrequireindifferent

networksystems.

Itisrepresentedbymultiplenetworkelementsthatofferfull-servicesolutions,meetingthefragmented,diverse,andcomplexnetworkdemandsofvariousindustryapplications.Thelayertransformsthetraditional"application-adaptednetwork"intoan"application-definednetwork"byprovidingon-demandintelligent,simple,andtrustedfunctionsandservices.Throughendogenousempowerment,thenetwork

continuouslyintegratesandabsorbsadvancedtechnologies,becomingan

evolutionaryforcethatprogressestomoreadvancedstages.Thenetworkfunctionssupporttheexplosivegrowthofnewindustriesandapplications,offeringasmartandstreamlinedplatform.Thislayercontributestothetransformationandupgradingofeconomicandsocialdigitization,

networking,andintelligence.

DataPlane

Itisresponsiblefordatamanagementfunctionssuchascollection,processing,analysisandserviceofalldatainthewholenetwork.Drivenbythedemandof"SmartConnectionofEverything,DigitalTwin",itimprovestheperformanceofdataservices,reducestheoverheadofdatatransmissiononbandwidth,carriesoutunifiedandcollaborativemanagementofdatainthewholenetwork,supports6Gtoprovidesafe,sharedandtrustworthydataservicesforthewholenetwork,andcreatesmorevaluethroughintelligentprocessingandanalysisofdata.Atthesametime,itprovidessecureandefficientdataservicesbothinsideand

outsidethenetworktoenhancedataflowefficiencyanduserexperience.

ControlPlane

Thecontrolplaneisanenhancedfunctionalplane.6Gnetworkarchitecturewillsupporttraditionalconnectivityservices,butalsoaddcontrolservicesrelatedtointelligence,arithmetic,securityandothercapabilities,realizingamajorshiftfrommobilecommunicationsto

mobileinformationservices.Thecontrolplanewillalsoexpandfroma

singleconnectionservicecontroltomultiplebusinessdimensionsofcommunication,computing,intelligenceanddigitalcontrol,supporttheunifiedandsimpleaccessofstar-earthconvergence,facilitatethein-depthintegrationofendogenouscapabilitiessuchasintelligence/security/calculationpowerwiththenewarchitecture,andrealizeflexible,intelligent,andsecurecontrolofthenetworkbasedon

theendogenouscapabilitiesconferredbyendogenousempowerment.

UserPlane

Theuserplaneisanenhancedfunctionalplane.Astheonlyfaceinthenetworkarchitecturethatprovidesuserdatatrafficprocessingandforwardingfunctions,theuserplaneisthecoreofrealizingtheultimateexperienceofuserservices,andthewindowforrealizingthe"user"asthecenter.Theuserplanesupportsthedataforwardingandtransmissionofmulti-dimensionalnewservicesthroughexpansiontomeetthetransmissionrequirementsof6Gcommunication,perception,arithmetic,intelligence,data,andsecureconvergednetwork;underthetrendofend-to-endfull-serviceprovisioning,theuserplaneservicingwillbedrivenbyscenariostoactivatethenetwork'sapplicationmodethrough"orderingaccordingtoasingledish",combinedwiththeservicingofRAN.Inthetrendofend-to-endfull-serviceprovisioning,userplaneserviceprovisioningwillactivatetheapplicationmodeofnetwork

throughscene-driven"àlacarte",which,combinedwithRANservice

provisioning,willbringthepossibilityofoptimizationbysplittingandrestructuringtheuserplanefunctionsoftheaccessnetworkandthecorenetworkatthesametime.high-precisiontimesynchronization;inordertoachievehigh-performanceforwardingandnetworkautonomousinterconnection,theuserplaneneedstoenhanceorintroducenew

transportprotocols.

ServiceandCapabilityOpenLayer

Itextracts,encapsulatesandcombinesthenetworkfunctionsofthelowerlayers,andprovideson-demandcapabilitiesorservicesthatcanbeopenedforinternalnetworkservicesorexternalapplications,coveringconnectivityaswellasavarietyofcapabilitiesorservicessuchasdata,computing,intelligenceandorchestrationmanagement,whichisthe

externalembodimentofnetworkasaservice.

Theserviceandcapabilityopenlayerinteroperateswiththeapplicationlayerinthenorthdirectionandconnectswithcapabilitiesandservicesinthesouthdirection,supportsthesafeopeningofnetworkcapabilities,andprovidescallable,friendlyandrichAPIinterfacesforatomiccapabilities.Accordingtothebusinessrequirementsofdifferentscenarios,itprovideson-demandnetworkservicesforubiquitoususersandimprovestheeffectofuserexperience.Atthesametime,itinteractswithotherlayers/facestocollectandencapsulatetheserviceand

capabilityopenlayerofotherlayers/faces.

Endogenousempowermentrealizesfulllifecyclemanagementofendogenouscapabilitiesandon-demandschedulingofmultipleelementsofendogenouscapabilitieswithinthenetwork,createsendogenousmulti-dimensionalcapabilities,andempowersthenetworkwithnetworkfunctionssuchasintelligence,arithmeticpower,security,etc.,whichservesasthefoundationofthe6Gnetwork,andbuildsupanon-demand,flexibleandefficientendogenouscapabilityresourcepool.Basedonendogenousempowerment,the6Gnetworkcanoptimizenetworkperformanceandachievenetworkautonomybyusingendogenouscapabilitiesinternallywithoutexternalintervention;externally,itcangivemoresupporttonewservicesforapplicationsinvariousindustriesandimproveuserexperience.Thecurrentcapabilitiesofendogenousempowermentincludeintelligence,arithmetic,andsecurity,andthecapabilitiesofendogenousempowermentwillcontinuetoexpandwith

theemergenceofnewbusinessscenariosandverticalindustries.

EndogenousSecurity

Theintroductionofnewapplicationscenariosandnewkeytechnologiesin6Gbringsnewsecurityproblems.6Gnetworksecuritycapabilityshouldbeintegratedintothenetworkarchitecture,andendogenoussecurityempowermentisorientedbyendogenoussecurity,basedondistributedtrustworthiness,breakingthetraditionalsecurity

boundaries,anddeployingdatasecurityandprivacyprotection

technologies,whichcanprovideendogenoussecuritysensing,defenseandpreventionfunctionsforeachfunctionandresourceofthe6Gnetworksystemandmakethesecuritycapabilityon-demandcustomizableandon-demandaccess.Thesecuritycapabilitiescanbecustomizedondemand,guaranteeingnetworkandusersecurityinternallyandrealizingtheopennessofsecuritycapabilitiesexternally.Ultimately,the6Gnetworkarchitectureempowerstheformationofautomaticimmunity,trustandconsensus,synergisticelasticity,intelligentandefficientsecuritysystem,andrealizestheeffectiveoperationoftheentirenetworkwithmultipleapplicationsandhighreliabilityandhighsecurity

inparallel.

EndogenousAI

Artificialintelligencewillbecomethefirstendogenousdrivingforceforthedevelopmentofhigh-performancenetworks.6GnetworkintelligencewilldeeplyintegrateanddesignAI'sarithmetic,data,algorithms,andotherelementalrequirementsinnetworkfunctions,architecture,protocols,andprocesses,realizingtheon-demandschedulingandflowofAIdata,algorithms,arithmetic,andotherresourceelementsatthenetworklevel,andmorereal-timeandhigh-efficiencyAItraining/reasoning,aswellastheintelligentidentificationofAIscenariosandthesmartgenerationofusecases,soastoimprovenetwork

performanceandefficiencythroughAI.TheAInetworkcanbeusedto

improvetheperformanceandefficiencyofthenetworkthroughAIandrealizeahighlevelofautonomyofthenetwork.Throughtheintelligentnativecapabilitiesofthenetwork,itcanachievebusinessintelligenceandserviceintelligence,andtrulybecomeanend-to-endhigh-levelautonomousnetwork,aswellasalinkandcornerstoneforempowering

thousandsofindustrieswithuniversalintelligence.

EndogenousComputility

Astheemergenceofnewusers,technologies,applicationsandscenarioshasbroughtaboutexponentialgrowthindatavolume,variousindustrieshaveputforwardamoreurgentneedforarithmeticpowerandnetwork.6Gnetworkwillbedeeplyintegratedwitharithmeticnetwork,andarithmeticpowercapabilitywillbebuiltintothearchitecture,whichontheonehandwillenablethemobilecommunicationnetworktoefficientlyutilizearithmeticresourcesandbuildanenhancednetworkarchitecturewithendogenousarithmeticpower;andontheotherhand,itcanprovidearithmeticpowerservicesforexternalindustrialapplications

throughthemobilecommunicationnetworktoempowerthediversified
