第页共页创新性教学模式的探索——《半截蜡烛》英语教案设计中的实践与思考Inrecentyears,withtherapiddevelopmentofinformationtechnology,thetraditionalteachingmodelisfacingunprecedentedchallengesandopportunities.Inordertoprovidestudentswithabetterandmoreinnovativelearningexperience,educatorshavebeenexploringnewteachingmodelsthatcanbettermeettheneedsofcontemporaryeducation.AsanEnglishteacher,Ihavebeencommittedtoexploringandpracticinginnovativeteachingmodelstoinspirestudents'interestinlearningandimprovetheirlearningoutcomes.Inthisarticle,Iwillsharemyexperienceandreflectionontheimplementationofthe"HalfaCandle"Englishlessonplandesign,whichaimstofosterstudents'readingandcriticalthinkingabilityinamoreinteractiveandengagingway.Background"HalfaCandle"isashortstorywrittenbytherenownedAmericanauthorandeducatorIsaacBashevisSinger.IttellsamovingstoryaboutapoorJewishfamily'sstruggletosurviveinaharshwinternight.Themaincharacter,ayoungboynamedMoishe,embarksonaperilousjourneytofindahalfcandlethatcanlightuphisfamily'shomeandbringhopetohisfamily.ThestoryisnotonlyavividportrayaloftheJewishtraditionandculturebutalsoatouchingreflectionontheuniversalhumanvaluesoflove,sacrifice,andresilience.ObjectivesTheobjectivesofthislessonplanare:Todevelopstudents'readingcomprehensionandcriticalthinkingability.Toenhancestudents'culturalawarenessandempathytowardsdifferentracesandnations.Topromotestudents'creativityandcollaborationthroughinteractiveandexperientiallearning.ActivitiesClassdiscussionandpredictionBeforereadingthestory,theteacherwillinitiateaclassdiscussiononthetopicofpovertyandhardship.Studentsareencouragedtosharetheirownunderstandingandexperienceofpovertyandhowtheycopewithdifficultiesintheirlives.Then,theteacherwillintroducethebackgroundandcontextofthestoryandaskstudentstomakesomepredictionsaboutthestorybasedonthetitleandthecoverpage.Studentscanworkinpairsorsmallgroupstoexchangetheirideasandwritedowntheirpredictionsonapieceofpaper.ReadingandanalysisTheteacherwillreadthestoryaloudorshowavideorecordingofthestorytothestudents.Duringthereading,theteacherwillstopatsomekeymomentstoaskstudentstomakesomecommentsandobservationsontheplot,thecharacters,andthesetting.Forexample,theteachercanask:WhatdoyouthinkmotivatesMoishetoembarkonthejourney?Whatdoyouthinkthehalfcandlesymbolizesinthestory?Howdoyoufeelaboutthemother'ssacrificeforherchildren?Whydoyouthinktheauthorchoosesthisparticularsettingandtimetotellthestory?Afterthereading,theteacherwillguidethestudentstoanalyzethestoryintermsofitsstructure,language,andthemes.Studentsareencouragedtoaskquestionsandsharetheirinsightsandinterpretationswitheachother.Theteachercanprovidesomerelevantbackgroundknowledgeandculturalinformationtoenrichthestudents'understandingofthestory.GrouppresentationandreflectionStudentswillbedividedintosmallgroupsandassigneddifferenttasks,suchascreatingastoryboard,actingoutascene,ormakingaposter.Eachgroupwillhavetocollaborateandcomeupwithacreativewaytoexpresstheirunderstandingandappreciationofthestory.Theteacherwillprovidesomeguidelinesandrubricstohelpthestudentsevaluatetheirownandtheirpeers'performance.Afterthepresentation,theteacherwillleadaclassreflectionanddiscussiononthestrengthsandweaknessesofeachgroup'swork.AssessmentTheassessmentofthislessonplanwillbebasedonthefollowingcriteria:Readingcomprehensionandcriticalthinkingability:Students'abilitytograspthekeyelementsofthestoryandmakeinsightfulcommentsandinterpretationsbasedonthetextandcontext.Culturalawarenessandempathy:Students'understandingandappreciationoftheJewishtraditionandcultureaswellastheirabilitytorelatetotheuniversalhumanvaluesoflove,sacrifice,andresilience.Creativityandcollaboration:Students'abilitytoworkcollaborativelyandcomeupwithoriginalandengagingwaystoexpresstheirthoughtsandfeelingsaboutthestory.ReflectionTheimplementationofthislessonplanhasbeenarewardingexperienceforbothmeandmystudents.Throughthisinteractiveandexperientiallearningapproach,studentshavebeenabletodeveloptheirreadingcomprehensionandcriticalthinkingabilityinamoreengagingandmeaningfulway.Theyhavealsoshownadeepinterestinlearningaboutdifferentculturesandhistories,andhavebecomemoreempathetictowardsthestrugglesandchallengesofotherracesandnations.Moreover,thislessonplanhasprovidedaplatformforstudentstounleashtheircreativityandcommunicationskills,whichareessentialfortheirfuturecareerandpersonaldevelopment.However,therearestillsomechallengesandlimitationsintheimplementationofthislessonplan.Oneofthechallengesisthetimeconstraint,asitrequiresmoretimeandresourcestoprepareandconducttheactivities.Anotherchallengeistheneedformoredifferentiatedandindividualizedinstruction,assomestudentsmayhavedifferentlevelsofreadingproficiencyandculturalbackground.Therefore,asanEnglishteacher,Ineedtocontinuetoreflectonmyteachingpracticesandexploremoreinnovativeandadaptableteachingmodelsthatcancatertothediverseneedsandinterestsofmystudents.
