3、thesignal-to-maskratiosofallthesubbands.Thereforeitisnecessarytodetermine,foreachsubbandthemaximumsignallevelandtheminimummaskingthreshold.TheminimummaskingthresholdisderivedfromanFFToftheinputPCMsignal,followedbyapsychoacousticmodelcalculation.TheFFTinparallelwiththesubbandfiltercompensatesforthela
4、ckofspectralselectivityobtainedatlowfrequenciesbythesubbandfilterbank.Thistechniqueprovidesbothasufficienttimeresolutionforthecodedaudiosignal(Polyphasefilterwithoptimizedwindowforminimalpre-echoes)andasufficientspectralresolutionforthecalculationofthemaskingthresholds.Thefrequenciesandlevelsofalias
5、ingdistortionscanbecalculated.Thisisnecessaryforcalculatingaminimumbitrateforthosesubbandswhichneedsomebitstocancelthealiasingcomponentsinthedecoder.Theadditionalcomplexitytocalculatethebetterfrequencyresolutionisnecessaryonlyintheencoder,andintroducesnoadditionaldelayorcomplexityinthedecoder.Thecal
