Foreword

TheDigitalEducationCouncilGlobalAIStudentSurveyaimstoprovideinsightsintostudentperceptionsaroundartificialintelligence(AI)inhighereducationtoinformdecision-makingforuniversityleadership.ThereportcoversthestatusofAIusageandreadiness,studentperceptionofAIusecases,expectationsandpreferencesonuniversityactionsonAI,satisfactionwithinstitutions’AIadoption,concernsandkeyattributesforAIuse.

Thissurveyhasgathered3839responsesacross16countries,frombachelor,masters,anddoctoratestudentsinmultiplefieldsofstudy,offeringadiverserangeofstudentviewpointsonAIineducation.WithuniversitiesbothkeentointegrateAIintotheirinstitutionsandwaryofpossibleliabilitiesandconcernsthatthisintegrationmaybring,thissurveyaimstobeaguidetotakeaction.

Datafromthissurveyprovidesvaluableguidingpointsforuniversitiesongeneralstudentsentiment,bringsupnotableusefulAIusecasesthatuniversities

canimplementandhighlightsthelargestareasofconcernamongststudentsthatuniversitiesshouldconsider.Thevariedandglobalperspectives

representedintheGlobalAIStudentSurveywouldnothavebeenpossiblewithoutthesupportandcontributionsofDECinstitutionmembersandalluniversitieswhoassistedinthedistributionofthissurvey.

Webelievethatweareatthe‘Tool’stageofdevelopmentofthistransformationaltechnology.Thenexttwostagesofdevelopment-‘DisruptiveUseCases’and‘SocietalTransformation’areyettoberealised.
