Tounderstandwhy,weaskedanothersetofstudentstoreporttheirexpectationsabouteitheraneatlyor

sloppilywrappedgift.Resultsshowedthatexpectationsweresignificantlyhigherfortheneatlywrappedgifts.

However,receiversoftheneatlywrappedgiftreportedthatitfailedtoliveuptotheirexpectations,whilethosewho

gotthesloppilywrappedgiftsaiditsurpassed(超过)theirexpectations.

Inourfinalexperiment,wesurveyed261adultsandaskedthemtoimaginereceivingeitheraneatlyorsloppily

wrappedgift.Thistimeweinstructedhalfofthemtoimaginethegiftwasfromaclosefriend,whiletheotherhalf

believeditcamefromanacquaintance(熟人).Thenwerevealedthegiftandaskedthemtorateit.

Whenitcamefromaclosefriend,receiversendeduplikingthesloppilywrappedgiftmore.However,forthe

giftfromanacquaintance,receiverspreferreditwhenitwasneatlywrapped.Thisoccursbecausetheseparticipants

usedthewrappingasacueforhowmuchthegift-givervaluestheirrelationship.

Soifyou'restressedovergiftwrappingthisholidayseason,considersavingyourselfeffortandmoneyby

wrappingyourfriends5giftshaphazardly(随意地).Butforsomeoneyoudon'tknowquiteaswell,it'sprobably
