thinksthatyoucangetsmarter,howmuchdoyouagreewiththiskid?"Then,theresearchers
monitoredthechildren'sbrainwaveswhilethekidsperformedataskonacomputer,which
involvedpressingthespacebar(空格键)whentheysawcertainimages.
Theresearchersanalyzedthebrainresponsesthatoccurredwithinhalfasecondofthe
childrenmakingamistakeonthetask.Ingeneral,abiggerbrainresponsemeansthatapersonis
payingmoreattentiontoherorhismistake.
Thestudyfoundthatchildrenwithgrowthmindsetsweresignificantlymorelikelytohave
thislargerbrainresponseaftermakingamistakeinthestudy.Inaddition,theyweremorelikelyto
improvetheirperformanceonthetaskaftermakingamistake.
Thefindingsmayhavesomepracticalimplicationsforparentsandteachers.Itisaseemingly
naturalreactiontocomfortchildrenwhentheymakemistakes,butsomewaysofdoingthismay
distractchildrenfromlearningfromtheirmistakes.
