ItturnsoutthatDavidSeidleralsohadastutteringproblemasachildanddrewinspirationfromtheking'sstruggle.Earlyinhiscareerhewantedtowriteascreenplayaboutit.HedutifullyaskedtheQueenMotherforpermission.Sheagreedbuttoldhim"notinmylifetime".Littledidheknowshewouldlivetobe101andhewouldhavetowaitanother30years.

Themoviestartsoffwithastammeringspeechandsignsoffwithastaggeringone,withhardlyanyglitchesinbetween.Thebasicpremiseofthemovieisfairlysimple.Akingwithastutterishelpedbyamaverickspeechtherapisttoovercomehisproblemandbecomeaninspiringorator.Thatsoundslikeaveryknownterritorytomostmoviegoers.Butfewminutesintothemovie,andyourealizethatthisonesimplypushesthebaranotchhigher.

Itisaverypleasingmovie,doesn'tleadtheaudienceintoalotofuncomfortablequestions.However,theartistryliesintheoverallbalanceofthemovie.YouslowlystartgettinggrippedbyDavidSeidler'sscreenplay.Theactorsaresuperb,takesitslowandsteadywithsuperbgriponeachoftheircharacters.WhileColinFirthputsinaspectacularperformance（oneyoucan'tmiss）,GeoffreyRushgoesabitmoreoldschoolandpullsoffasubtleanddeepportrayal.Onethatfillsupyourheartbutalsokeepsyourbrainactive.Humorcomesinhereandthere,withaveryeasyflowandsteadypace.Notforasinglemomentdoyouperceivethemovieasdull.HelenaBonhamCarterisgood.GuyPearceisappropriate,thoughhedoeslookabittoocasualattimes（maybethatwasanintentionalcharacterflaw）。
