AbstractInterestisausefulauxiliaryinEnglishteachingandlearning.Itisakindofinternalmotivationtopushstudents’studies.TeachersneedtotryeverywaytoattractstudentstotheteachingactivitiesandmakethestudentsexperiencethatEnglish-learningisakindofinterest.Thatwillhelptostimulatetheenthusiasmandmotivationofstudentsandimprovetheteachingquality.Theauthorfirstlydescribesthecurrentteachingandlearningsituationandpointsouttheproblem.Second,theauthoremphasizestheimportanceofinterestinEnglishlearningandteaching.Then,theauthorputsforwardthedetailedmethodabouthowtoimprovestudents’interestinEnglishteaching.Finally,theauthordrawsaconclusiontoexpressthatonlyifstudents’interestinEnglish-learningimprovedcanstudents’abilityofEnglish-learningenhance,whichwillmakestheteachingvivid,impressiveandeasy.

I.IntroductionInterestisveryimportantinlearningEnglishandisalsoaneffectivemotivationtolearnEnglish.Itcanpushpeopleforwardtolearnactively.Soitsurelyisacrucialelementwhichcaninfluenceone’sattitudes,motivateone’spotentialandkeepone'sperseverance.InordertohaveaneffectiveEnglishlessonwhichisbeneficialandinteresting,firstofall,anEnglishteachershouldlearnstudents’learningpsychologyandmotives,andthenusesomeadvancedandeffectivetechniquestoteachEnglishinclassroomaccordingtopreviousstudy.Tosomeextent,themosteffectivemethodtomakeEnglishteachingandlearningsmoothandsuccessfulistoarousestudent’sinterestinEnglish.(Celce-Murcia,1988)[1]JustasEinsteinoncesaid“Interestisthebestteacher.”Itistosaythatinterestisadirectmotivatingelementtopushforwardstudents’learningwhichmeansthatinterestplaysanindispensableroleinEnglishlearning.Comparativelyspeaking,learningEnglishisratherdull,especiallytostudysomanynewwordsandalargeamountofvocabulary.Inthisresult,a

numberofstudentsbecomeafraidofit.Therefore,itisteachers’obligationtoencouragethemtolearnEnglishandteachersshouldsparenoefforttomotivatethestudents'interest.II.PresentEnglishTeachingandLearningSituation2.1PresentEnglishTeachingSituationInChina,toalargeextent,Englishteachingisalwaysdominatedbytheteachers,Englishpracticesaremostlytext-oriented,andattentionisscarcelypaidtotrainingstudents’interestinlearningEnglish.Thetraditionalteachingmethodsareprimarilyreferredtoas

didacticswhichisakindofteachingmethodologyinwhichthemaintaskofateacheristodeliveralectureliterallyorteachthelinguisticknowledge,andmeanwhilethemaintaskofstudentsisjusttolistenandtakedownnotes.(YeJianping,2006)[3]However,theyonlyaccepttheknowledgeinapassivewaywhichisgivenbytheteacher,insteadofthemselveswhoshouldbeactivetounderstand,learn,rememberandapplytheknowledge.Inthisway,didactics

isactuallynonsenseforthestudentstostudywellandlearnrealknowledge,andshouldn'tbefrequentlyappliedinEnglishteaching.2.2PresentEnglishLearningSituationInaclassroom,itistheusualsituationthatmoststudentskeepsilentandplayaroleasaudience.What’smore,theyseldomspeakEnglishorputuptheirhandstoanswertheteacher’squestionsvoluntarily,letalonesomeevenfallasleep.ItseemsthattheyareattachinglittleimportancetoEnglishlearningandlackinginterestinEnglishclass.Thereareobliviouslytwoprimaryreasonsforthissituationofnon-participation:oneisthatmanystudentshavejustlosttheirinterestinlearningEnglish,andtheotheroneisthatsomestudentsevenhavelosttheirhopeinlearningEnglishduetotheirpoorrudimentaryknowledge.(韦清惠,2007)[6]III.TheImportanceofInterestinLearningEnglishAccordingtothepresentcriteriaoncurriculumofEnglish,Englishteachingshouldbepromulgatedandputintopracticeinordertospeedupstudents’comprehensiveabilityinaharmoniousway.Students’interestisoneofthemostimportantelementsinfluencingtheirsuccessorfailureinlearningalanguage,becauseitisakindofinnermotivationthatdrivesstudentstopursueacourseofbehavior.Teachersshouldmotivatestudent’sdesireforlearningknowledgesoastoarousetheirinterestinlearningEnglish.Studentscangetsomeknowledgeonlyhavinginterestinit.ThestudentsincountrymiddleschoolarenotinterestedinEnglish.Mostofthemthinkituselessunlesstheywillgotohigherschools.SoIpaymoreattentiontothetrainingofthestudents.Ofcourse,wemayusemanykindsofwaystoincreasestudents’interest:playingEnglishgames;tellingEnglishstories;toguessriddles;etc.Alltheseactivitieswillplayaveryimportantroleinthetrainingsteps.IV.DetailedMethodstoMotivateStudents’InterestinEnglishInordertoarousestudents’interestinEnglish,Englishteachersshouldadoptadvanceandeffectiveteachingmethodsasmuch

astheycan,developandencouragestudents'potentialinlearningEnglishpronunciation,grammarandvocabulary,whicharethethreebasiclanguageelements,andalsothefoundationofthefourlanguageskillsincludinglistening,speaking,readingandwriting.

4.1BuildaHarmoniousRelationshipbetweenTeachersandStudentsAsanoldChinesesayinggoes,ifonlythestudentsareclosedtoteacher,theywouldlovetheteacher’slesson.(DaviesP,2002)[4]Inotherwords,whenthestudentslikeandholdapositiveattitudetowardtheteacher,theywouldlovethesubjecttaughtbytheteacher.Therefore,inordertocarryoutsmoothteachingandlearning,teachersshouldestablishaharmoniousrelationshipbetweenthemandthestudents.Itisthebasisofagoodrelationshipbetweenteachersandstudentsthatteachersshouldloveandrespectstudents.AsChairmanMaooncesaid,giftsofpeoplearelikesparks,andtheycanputout,atthesametime,theycanburnup,asisthecasewithencouragementwhichcankindlestudentstogetbetterachievements.Teachers’loveandunderstandingswillencouragestudentstostudyhardandmakeprogress.Thisisalsotheirresponsibility.Teachers’behaviorshavealong-lastinginfluenceonstudents’minds.Astheproverbsays,Loveme,lovemydog,sotosomeextent,theteachers'loveofstudentswillbetransferredtothestudents'loveofEnglishlearning.4.2HelpStudentsEstablishConfidenceItiswidelyacceptedthateverythingdependsonone'sownattitudeanddeterminationandthatpracticemakesperfect.(扈中平,2008)[7]Asateacher,sometechniquesaretobeneeded.Theyshouldhaveawiderangeoftheprofoundacademicknowledge.inteaching,theyshouldgainasenseofhumorwhichcanmakethelessonsmoothandactive,forusuallystudentspreferhumorousteachersandaremorelikelytobeattractedbythiskindofcharisma.Theclassroomteachingisnotenoughforstudents,andmorepracticeisneededbothinandoutofclassinEnglishlearning.Englishhasitsspecialcharacteristics,andteachersshouldmakethefullestuseofthefeaturestoarousethestudents’interestandmotivation.I.Thesecondclassroompracticeisdifferentfromtheinstructioninclass,anditisaplatformforstudentstogivefreereintotheirimaginationandcreativity.Itisasimportantastheclassroomteaching.Itiswell-knownthatconfidencecanmakeonesuccessful.Similarly,ifstudentshaveconfidence,theywillbesuccessfulinEnglishlearning.Moreconfidenceandfirmdeterminationareneeded.Oncestudentshaveconfidence,theycanovercomealotofdifficultiestheymayface,anddevotethemselvestolearning.(任秀珍,2006)[10]Topraisethestudentsratherthantocriticizethemwillgetsurprisingharvest.Praisecouldhelpstudentsbecomeconfident.So,teachershouldgivemoreencouragementandpraisetostudentsinsteadofsomeharshandcoldwords..Inmostsituations,theirconfidenceiseasytogethurtandtheiractivitiesareusuallyconfinedinalimitedscope.Furthermore,encouragementwilleasethetenseatmosphereintheclass.Eventhoughstudentsmadesomemistakes,theteachersshouldencourageandhelpthemtobuildtheirconfidence.4.3ArrangeEffectiveLessonsAtschool,studentstendtorelyontheteachertoleadthemtolearnEnglishwell.So,teachershouldorganizeeffectiveEnglishclassandmakesomeinnovationbasedonstudents’differentEnglishlevel,individualcharacter,andinterestandcomprehensionability.4.3.1MakeProfoundPreparationThefirstthingateacherneedstodoistopreparehisorherworktobeeffective.Itisbeyonddoubtthatteachersshouldpreparetheirlessonsprofoundly.Agoodpreparationworkisbasedontheteachingmaterialaswellasknowingstudentswell.Asateacher,itisnecessarytolearntheteachingmaterialsthoroughlyandunderstandthestudentswhoaregoingtoattendtheclass.Furthermore,togivethestudentsasoundintroductionofthebackgroundrelevanttotheobjectivesofthelessonwillhelpthemtogetreadyfortheclassbothlinguisticallyandpsychologically.Thisprocedurewillencouragethestudentstobeactivetolearnwhattheywanttoknowinthefollowingclasstime.4.3.2CreateanInterestingEnglishEnvironmentSinceeveryclassisdistinct,teachersshouldcreativelycomeupwiththeteachingprocedureanditisnotwisetoapplyonlyoneproceduretoostrictly.(JoMcDonough,2000)[2]Instead,ateachershouldmanagevariousactivitiesaccordingtotheneedsandinterestofthestudents.Tobeginwith,itwillhelpthestudentsconcentratetheirattention.Then,thevariousactivitieswillhelpthemdeveloptheirreceptiveandproductiveabilitiesandapplythelanguageinrealsituations.Inthoseactivities,thestudentscanplaytherolesoforganizers,actorsoraudienceratherthanthetestersinfrontoftheteacher.(学习网,12008)[8]Andstudents’activeparticipationinclassisoneimportantfactorinteachingasuccessfullesson.

ItiswidelyknownbymostEnglishteachersthatplayinggamesisaveryusefulmethodinEnglishteaching.Itcannotonlyarousestudents’interestbutalsomakethempracticeoralEnglishinarelaxedway.Inaddition,becauseEnglishisaforeignlanguage,sostudentshaverarechancetohearandspeakitbeyondEnglishclass.AsfarastheEnglishlearningatschoolisconcerned,moststudentstendtorelyontheirteacherstolearnEnglish.Butlanguagelearningcannotgowithoutalanguageenvironment.Inthisregard,duringtheclass,teachersshouldbuildEnglish-learningatmosphere,whichcanhelpstudentstolearnEnglishactivelyandefficiently.4.4DesignDiversifiedHomeworkItisindispensablefortheteachertosetagoalalittleexceedingastudent’scurrentcompetence,inthiswaymostofthestudentscankeepprogress.(LuYun,2004)[5]Theirestimationofthetask’svalueassignedtothemandthechancesofsuccessareclearlyvitalcomponentsoftheirmotivation.SotheteachershouldincreasethefrequencyofgivingfeedbackandadjustthelevelandthecontentsofthetasksoastomakethemajorityofthestudentsgainasenseofachievementinthelanguagelearningMoreover,teachersalsocanofferseveralformsofhomeworkatdifferentleveltoaccordingtodifferentstudents’ability.Thus,eachstudentcanmakeafreechooseaccordingtotheirindividualconditionandteachersshouldencouragethemtofinishthehomeworkasmuchaspossibleatthesametime.Inthisway,homeworkcannotonlyhelpthestudentstoreviewtheknowledgethatlearntinclass,butalsomotivatetheirinterestinEnglish.4.5CultivateStudentstoFormGoodHabitsAstheproverbgoes,“Habitisthesecondnature".(关鸿羽,2006)[9]ItiswithoutdoubtthatagoodhabitofstudyingEnglishisveryimportantandnecessary.Agoodhabitisabsolutelynotformedimmediately.Inaclass,teachersshouldremindstudentsofforminggoodhabits.Atveryfirsttime,someteachersmaynotbeawareofthesignificanceofgoodhabits,butafteraperiodoftime,theywillrealizethatandhelpstudentstocultivatethehabitsgradually.ItistruethathewhotrieshisbesttolearnEnglishwellhashisowngoodhabitsoflearningEnglish,suchaslearningactivelyandearnestly,beingabletofindproblems,andbeingpositiveinthinkingandansweringteacher’squestions.Finally,theycanformhabitsofthinkingindecentlylikeusingreferencebookssoastogetgoodachievementsintheend.V.ConclusionGenerallyspeaking,interestisagreatauxiliaryinEnglishteachingandlearning.Itisworththetroubletoarousestudents’interestinEnglishlearning.Thisthesisonlytalkssomesuperficialwaystoimprovestudents’interestinEnglishlearning.AnEnglishteachershouldstudyassiduouslyandpreparelessonscarefully.Furthermorehe

shoulddesignelaboratelyandbeboldinpractice.AnEnglishteacher,whoisunwillingtostudyassiduouslyandpreparethelessoncarefully,willneverhavegoodteachingmethod.Sofar,theusageofsongs,andlearner-centered

activitiesareclarified.Theadvantagesandsomekeypointsareexplained.Itisnowmoreapparentthattheteachingofpronunciation,vocabularyandgrammarcanbesupportedeffectivelybyusingsuchresources.Accordingtotheneedsanalysisofthestudentsandtheanalysisof

theirpsychologicalcharacteristics,theirlikes,dislikesaswellasthemotivationsoftheirstudy,severaltechniquescanbeintegratedwithsuchresources.Sinceteachingisadevelopingart,whichrequiresinnovativeandcreativeideastoenrichitseffectiveness,wemustnothesitatetousesuchresourcesinourclassrooms.Theseresourcescanassistourteachingwhileprovidingarelaxedatmosphereandmotivatingstudents.
