TheReformBillof1832gavethemiddleclassthepoliticalpower.Whiletheaffluenceofthemiddleclassincreased,thelowerclasses,thrownofftheirlandandintothecitiestoformthegreaturbanworkingclass.

In1837whenQueenVictoriacametothethrone(王位),marriedwomenhadnopropertyrights,notevenintheproceedsoftheirownearnings.Theyhadnorightstocustody(监护

)oftheirownchildrenandwereexcludedfromuniversitiesandprofessions.ThesocialchangesDarwin’sOriginofSpecies(1859)andTheDescentofMan(1871)shookthetheoreticalbasisoftheconventionalreligiousfaith.
