Whenthereisnotenoughfoodormoneyforthewholefamilytosurvive,thestepmotherinthisstoryorderstheirfathertotakethechildrentothedepthsoftheforestandleavethem.Whenthefatherresists,shemocks嘲笑,戏弄himandconvinceshimthatbykeepingthechildrenallfourwouldsoon'perish.Herpersonalityofthestepmotherisclearlyobservable.
