She wasWhat was he doing when I arrived? He was (3) Master the past progressive tense: was/were + doing2、Ability Objects(1)Learn to talk about past events using the past progressive tense.(2)Improve students listening and speaking skills.3、Moral Objects (1)Arouse students interest and motivation in learning English. (2)Encourage students to face the difficulties bravely.II. Teaching Key Points:1. Master the key words and expressions.2. Master the past progressive tense: was/were + doing3. Learn to talk about past events using the past progressive tense.III. Teaching procedure :Step 1 GreetingStep 2 Review and Lead-in1. Show some pictures and ask: What is he/she doing now? And let students answer: He/She is now.2. Review the present progressive tense.3.Ask students “What are you doing now ?” and lead them to answer “We are having an English class now.” Then ask the students “What were you doing at this time yesterday?” Let students look at the class table and say: We were having a Chinese class at this time yesterday.Step 3 Presentation1.Let students think over the difference between “We are having an English class now.” and “We were having a Chinese class at this time yesterday”2.Explain the past progressive tense.3.Practice: Show some pictures and let students say what the people were doing.4.Play a guessing game to show the structure “He/She waswhen I”5.Teach activity 1a(1)Show the picture on page33 and talk about it with students like this:T: Whats the weather like?S: Its rainy .T: Yes, its raining heavily. Its a rainstorm. How many people can you see in the picture ?S: Four.T:Yes. Where were they at the time of the rainstorm?(2) Ask students to finish 1a, then check the answers.(3) Ask students to read the sentences together. Step 4 Listening(1b)1.T: Look at the picture again. There is a TV reporter. He is interviewing the four people. Please read the question he asked about together . Listen to the recording and circle the correct responses. Read the phrases first. 2. Play the recording. The first time let students only listen.The second time ask students to circle the correct responses. Pay attention to “was/were +doing”.3.Check the answer.4. Play the recording again and ask students to repeat what they hear.Step5 Pair work(1c)1. Explain the instruction and invite two students to read the sample conversation.2. Ask students to practice in group.3. Invite some students to act.Step6 Listening(2a,2b)1. lead students to look at the pictures and guess the order.2.
