InSeptember1984,thechoirarrivedinNorthAmericaandachievedmorethroughouttheirtour

thanBarnettcouldimagine.Theyinspiredaudienceswiththeirstoriesthroughmusic,danceand

dramaandraisedenoughfundstoopenachildren'shomeinUganda.Thisprovidedastable

environmentandaqualityeducationforthechoirchildrenandotherchildrenwhoneededcare.

WhileBarnetthadthoughtofthechoirasaone-timeattempt,thechoifsinstantpopularityand

theongoingneedsinUgandaconvincedhimtocontinuewithchoirwork.In1985,asecondchoir

wasselectedfromanorphanagehomeinMakerere,Kikoni,andtheAfricanChildren'sChoirbegan

anothertour.Itssuccessmeantitwasabletoprovideformanychildrenbeyondthoseinthechoir.

Overthenextyears,sixmorehomeswereestablishedtocaterforvulnerablechildren.A

numberofspecialliteracyschoolswereestablishedwherethechildrenlearnedhowtoreadandwrite,

andgainedconfidenceandskills.Theorganizationnextestablishedasponsorshipprogrammeto

helpthechildrenmovefurtherintheirschooling.

In1990,theAfricanChildren'sChoirspreaditswingsandopenedinKenya.In1994,it

openedinRwanda.In1996,itopenedanotherbranchinSouthSudan,Nigeria,GhanaandSouth

Africa.Currently,theAfricanChildren'sChoirismadeupof44choirs,eachwithbetween17-24

members,bothboysandgirlsagedbetween7-15.
