1Scope

oThisEuropeanStandardspecifiesamethodfordeterminingthewearresistanceoftestspecimensmadefromcementitious-orsyntheticresinscreedmaterialoroptionallyforotherscreedmaterials.Themethodisalsosuitableforfloorscreeds.

2Normativereferences

ThisEuropeanStandardincorporatesbydatedorundatedreference,provisionsfromotherpublications.Thesenormativereferencesarecitedattheappropriateplacesinthetextandthepublicationsarelistedhereafter.Fordatedreferences,subsequentamendmentstoorrevisionsofanyofthesepublicationsapplytothisEuropeanStandardonlywhenincorporatedinitbyamendmentorrevision.Forundatedreferencesthelatesteditionofthepublicationreferredtoapplies(includingamendments).

3Principle

Thewearresistance-BCAofthescreedsurfaceisassessedbymeasuringthemeandepthofwearcausedbyamachinewiththreehardenedsteelwheelsrotatingoveraringshapedareaforafixednumberofrevolutionsunderastandardload.Themeandepthofwearwithintheringpatternisusedtoindicatethewearresistanceofthescreedsurfaceatthetestlocation.

5Apparatus

5.1BCAabrasiontestmachine

Thetestmachinehasthefollowingfeatures,seeFigure1.

a)Anabrasionheadconsistingofthreethroughhardenedsteelwheelsasdescribedine),tangentiallymountedontoacircularsteelplateatequalradialintervalssothewheelscanfreelyrotateinacircularpathwithanominalmeandiameterof(225±1)mm.Thewheelsarenotfreetorotateabouttheirverticalaxes.

b)Anabrasionheadisconnectedbyashafttoanelectricmotorandgearboxcapableofrotatingtheabrasionheadatamanufacturer'sratedspeedof(180±15)min¹for(2850±10)revolutions.

Variationsinthemotorparameters,phaseandsupplyvoltagemaycausemarginalvariationsinrotationalspeedduringoperation.Thetestdurationof(2850±10)revolutionsoftheabrasionheadapproximatesto15min.

c)Acircularsteelplate,towhichadditionalweightsarefixedsothatthetotalloaddistributedtothewheelsis(65,00,5)kg.Theplateisconnectedtothemotorbyashaftthatallowsittomovevertically

d)Asteelframeonwhichthemotorandabrasionheadaremounted.Theframehas4feetbearingontothefloorsurface.Theframeisrestrainedfromlateralmovementduringthetestbytwosteelpinsinsertedthroughtwonominal10mmdiameterholesdrilledinthefloorcoincidentwithlocatingholesinthefeetoftheframeatthebaseofdiagonallyoppositelegs.

e)Steelwheelstothefollowingspecification:

Vickershardness≥735HV(throughoutatleasttheouter1,5mmofthe

Thiscanbeachievedbymanufacturingthewheelsfromtoolsteel,withthefollowingheattreatment:

Pre-heat750°Cto800°C

Hardeninairoroil980°Cto1030°C

Doubletemperfrom500°Cto520°C

andgrindingtotheexactspecification.Othermethodsofhardeningmaybeusedaslongasthespecifiedhardnessofthewearingsurfaceisobtained:Thewheelsshallhaveaminimumdiameterof73,0mmatanypointacrossthewheeltread.Wheelsshallbereplacedincompletesets.

5.2Markingouttemplate

Acirculartemplate(seeFigure1)isusedtomarkoutthepositionofthedepthgaugefeetandtheholestobedilledforlocatingtheframe.Theserestrainingpinholesare456mmapartandequidistantfromthecentreofthewheeltrack.Theholesinthetemplatearepositionedatanequalradialspacingof45°sothatwhenthedepthgaugeisplacedonthefloor,withitsfeetonthemarks,thegaugesliderrestsonthecentrelineofthewheeltrack.

5.3Depthgauge

Thegaugeusedtomeasurethedepthofwearshallbecapableofbeingreadtothenearest10μm.Thedistancebetweenthefeetofthegaugeshallenableittostraddlethewheeltrackofthetestmachine.Theendoftheslidercontactingthefloorshallberounded.

Asteelshimof1,50mmto2,00mmthicknessisusedtosettheinitialpositionofthegaugesliderfromwhichsubsequentreadingsaretaken.Alternatively,asetofstandardfeelergaugesmaybeused.Thedepthgaugemaythenbeaccuratelyresetifnecessaryduringthecourseofthetestingandcheckedagainattheendoftestingintheeventofbatterypowerfailure,etc.

6Preparationofspecimens

ThewearresistanceBCAshallbemeasuredon3specimensmadeinaccordancewithEN13892-1.

Squareslabswithaminimumedgelengthof500mmandaminimumthicknessof50mmshallbeusedasspecimens

WherethescreedmaterialisnotdesignedtobeappliedatthisthicknessitshouldbeappliedontoaconcretesubstrateaccordingtoEN13892-1.

Thecontactfaceandtheoppositefaceofthespecimenshallbeparallelandflat.

Itshallbeensuredthatthetestspecimenissurfacedryandfreeofcontaminants.Anydust,dirtordebrisshallberemovedwithabrushorbyvacuuming.

7Procedure

7.1Depthgauge

Thedepthgaugeshallbeplacedonasuitableflatsurface:themarkingouttemplatecanbeused.Thepositionsofthethreefeetofthegaugeshallbemarkedsothatitcanberepositionedforlaterreadings.Insertthe1,50mm-2,00mmsteelshimundertheendoftheslider,ensuringthattheshimisincontactwiththesurfaceandthattheendofthesliderisincontactwiththeshim.Thereadingofthegaugeshallbesettozero.Thisenablesdepthreadingstoberecordedaspositivevalues.Theshimshallberemovedanditshallbecheckedthatthegaugereadstheshimthicknesscorrectlywhentheendofthesliderisincontactwiththeflatsurface.Alternatively,ifaspecialjigissuppliedwiththegauge,themanufacturer'sinstructionsshallbefollowed.

7.2Settingup

Themarkingouttemplateshallbeplacedinpositiononthescreedsurfaceandmarkthelocationsofthegaugefeetthroughthe24holesusingamarkerpen.Thelocationsofthetworestrainingpinsshallbemarkedthroughtheholesonthebarofthetemplate.Thetemplateshallberemoved,thetestreferencenumbershallbewrittenonthespecimenatthecentreofthetestareaandthenumberofthegaugepositions1to8shallbemarkedonthespecimen.Themarksandnumbersshallbecapableofbeingclearlyseenbeforeandafterthetestiscarriedout.

Thedepthgaugeshallbeplacedaccuratelyateachofthe8measuringpositionsonthespecimenandtheinitialreadingsshallberecordedtothenearest10m.

Twonominal10mmdiameterrestraining-pinholesshallbedilledatthemarkedpositions.Thedebrisanddustshallberemovedwithabrushorbyvacuuming.

Thetestmachineshallbeassembledatthetestlocationandtherestrainingpinsshallbeinsertedthroughthefeetintotheholesinthetestspecimen.Itshallbecheckedthattheabrasionheadisfreetorotate.

Thetestspecimenwiththemachineattachedmay,ifrequired,beplacedontoabedofsandorotherconformablematerialsuchthatitisfullysupportedandcannotmovelaterally.

7.3Testoperation

Therestrainingpinsshallberemovedandthetestmachineshallbemovedawayfromthetestposition.Anydustordebriscreatedbythetestshallberemovedbybrushingorvacuuming.

Thedepthgaugeshallbeplacedaccuratelyateachofthe8measuringpositionsonthespecimenandthereadingsshallberecordedtothenearest10m.

Themeandepthofwearshallbecalculated,e.g.thewearresistanceBCA,usingfollowingequation:

Theresultshallbeexpressedtothenearest10m.

Somescreedsurfacesmaybesubjecttolittleornowearfromthetest.Inthosecircumstancesthedepthreadings

maybeofthesameorderastheaccuracyofthedepthgauge(10m)andasslighterrorsmayoccurin

repositioningthedepthgauge,valueslowerthanthezeroreadingmaysometimesoccur.Wherethisoccursthedepthofwearshouldberecordedaszeroandnotasanegativevalue.

Aphotographofthewearpatternverticallyfromabovemaybetakentoprovideinformationontheabradedsurface.

8Testreport

Thetestreportshallincludethefollowinginformation:

a)number,titleanddateofissueofthisEuropeanStandard;

b)nameandaddressofthelaboratorycarryingoutthetestsandnameandaddressofthelaboratorypreparingthesamples(ifdifferent);

c)identificationnumberofthetestreport;

d)nameandaddressofthemanufacturerorsupplieroftheproduct;e)nameandidentificationmarksorbatchnumberoftheproduct;

f)dateofsupplyoftheproduct;

g)methodofsampling(byreferencetoEN13892-1)andbywhichorganisation;h)place,dateandtimeofsampling;

i)identificationofthescreedsamples,includingtype,originanddesignationofthescreedmaterialbyreferencetotherelevantproductstandardEN13813;

j)preparation(mixing,casting,preparationofthesubstrate,useofthebondingagent,ifappropriate)andstorage(curing)conditionsbyreferencetoEN13892-1;

k)dateandtimeofpreparingspecimensfortest(i.e.dateandtimeofanymixing,casting,mouldingordemouldingprocedure,ifappropriate);

l)ageofscreedmaterialwhentested;m)testmet
