iPhonelineandAndroiddevices.NokiaeventuallyenteredintoapactwithMicrosoftin
2011toexclusivelyuseitsWindowsPhoneplatformonfuturesmartphones.
InSeptember2013,MicrosoftannouncedthatitwouldacquireNokia'smobilephone
businessaspartofanoveralldealtotaling€5.44billion(US$7.17billion).StephenElop,
Nokia'sformerCEO,andseveralotherexecutivesjoinedthenewMicrosoftMobile
subsidiaryofMicrosoftaspartofthedeal,whichwascompletedon25April2014.In
November2014,Nokiabegantolicenseproductdesignsandtechnologiestothird-party
manufacturers,toenableacontinuedpresencefortheNokiabrandintheconsumer
electronicshardwaremarket.
On15April2015,NokiaannouncedthatitwouldacquiretheFrenchtelecommunications
equipmentcompanyAlcatel-Lucentfor€15.6billion.
