blue.Theyfoundthattheouterbodyofthetarantulaiscoveredwithtinycrystalline(晶体的)structures.Thesetiny

structuresactlikeamirrorandwhenlightstrikesthem,theyreflectonlyoneparticularwavelengthoflight-blue.

Thiskindofnaturalcolorisreferredtoasthe"structuralcolor”.

Usually,whencolorsareviewedfromdifferentangles,theyappeardifferentbecauseofhowlightisreflected.

Thisisbecauseofaphenomenonknownasiridescence(彩虹色).However,thebluecolorproducedbytarantulas

appearsthesamefromallangles.Scientistsfindthatitisthetinycrystalstructuresonthetarantula'sbodyarranged

inaflower-likeshapethatreduceiridescence.

Scientistshaveknownaboutstructuralcolorsforawhile,buttheyhavenotseenthemusedfordye.Witha
