thatIwasadangertoLilliput.Iknewtheywerediscussingmeinprivate,but

IwasseriouslyalarmedwhenIdiscoveredwhattheyhaddecided.Luckily,

aswellasReldresal,IhadanothergoodfriendamongtheKingsofficials.

Lateonenighthevisitedmesecretly,inordertowarnme.

"Youknow,"hebegan,"thatyou'vehadenemieshereforsometime.

ManyofthelordsarejealousofyourgreatsuccessagainstBlefuscu,and

Flimnapstillhatesyou.TheyaccuseyouofcrimesagainstLilliput,crimes

punishablebydeath!"

WhenIwasalone,Ithoughtaboutthesituationforalongtime.Perhaps

Iwaswrong,butIcouldnotseethattheKingwasbeingkindandgenerous

inorderingsuchaninhumanpunishment.WhatshouldIdo?Icouldaskfor

atrial,butIwasnotconfidentofthejudgeshonesty.Icouldattackthe

capitalandkillalltheLilliputians,butwhenIrememberedtheKingspast

kindnesstome,Ididnotwanttodothat.

AtlastIdecidedtoescape.Andso,beforeReldresalcametotellmeof

mypunishment,IwenttothenorthofLilliput,whereourshipslay.Itook

myclothesoffandputthemintooneofthelargestwarships.Ialsoputa

blanketintoit.ThenIsteppedintothesea,andswamtoBlefuscu.Bypulling

theLilliputwarshipbehindme,Ikeptmyclothesandblanketdry.

WhenIarrived,theKingofBlefuscusenttwoguidestoshowmetheway

tothecapital.ThereImettheKing,theQueen,thelordsandladiesintheir

coaches.IexplainedthatIhadcometovisitBlefuscu,asIhadbeeninvited.

However,Ididnotsayanythingaboutthepunishmentwaitingformein

Lilliput.Theywelcomedmewarmly.Thatnight,astherewasnobuildingbig

enoughforme,Isleptontheground,coveredbymyblanket.Itwasnotas

comfortableasmybedinLilliput,butIdidnotmind.

IdidnotspendlonginBlefuscu.Onlythreedaysaftermyarrival,I

noticedaboatinthesea,nearthebeach.Itwasarealboat,largeenough

forme.Perhapsithadbeendriventherebyastorm.Iswamouttoitandtied

ropestoit.Then,withthehelpoftwentyofBlefuscusshipsandthree

thousandsailors,Ipulleditontothebeach.Itwasnotbadlydamaged.and

itwasexcitingtobeabletostartplanningmyjourneybacktoEnglandandmy

home.

Duringthistime,theKingofLilliputhadwrittentoasktheKingof

Blefuscutosendmeback,asaprisoner,sothatIcouldreceivemy

punishment.TheKingofBlefuscu,however,repliedthatIwastoostrong

tobetakenprisoner,andthatIwouldsoonbereturningtomycountry

anyway.SecretlyheinvitedmetostayandhelphiminBlefuscu,butIno

longerbelievedinthepromisesofkingsortheirofficials,soIpolitely

refused.

Iwasnowimpatienttostartmyvoyagehome,andtheKingorderedhis

workmentorepairtheboatandprepareeverythingIneeded.Ihadthemeat

ofonehundredcattleandthreehundredsheeptoeatonthejourney,andI

alsohadsomeliveanimalstoshowtomyfriendsinEngland.

Aboutonemonthlater,IleftBlefuscu,onSeptember24,1701.The

King,theQueenandtheirlordsandladiesallcamedowntothebeachto

wavegoodbye.

Aftersailingallday,Ireachedasmallisland,whereIsleptthatnight.

Onthethirdday,September26,Isawasail,andwasdelightedto

discoverthatitwasanEnglishship,onitswayhometoEngland.The

captainpickedmeup,andItoldhimmystory.AtfirsthethoughtIwasmad,

butwhenItooktheliveanimalsoutofmypockettoshowhim,hebelieved

me.

WearrivedhomeatlastonApril13,1702,andIsawmydearwifeand

childrenagain.AtfirstIwasdelightedtobeathomeagain.Iearnedquitea

lotofmoneybyshowingmyLilliputiananimalstopeople,andintheendI

soldthemforahighprice.Butasthedayspassed,Ibecamerestless,and
