e.g.:TomisoneoftheboysthatarefromtheUS.TomistheonlyboythatisfromtheUS.2.在从句中作宾语时,可省略。关系代词前有介词时,不能省略。

e.g.:Maryisthegirlforwhich(不可省略)I'mwaiting.Thisisthestory(that/which)(可省略)Ireadinthatbook.3.当先行词既有人又有物时,引导定语从句的关系代词用that而不用who或which。

e.g.:Theytalkedforanhourofthingsandpersonsthattheyrememberedintheschool.4.当先行词前有everything,all,theonly,thelast,thevery等修饰时,定语从句的关系代词用which。

e.g.:Hewasthefirstmanthatpassedtheexam.5.关系词前有介词时,只能用which,不用that。
