Materials:

1.Whiteboardandmarkers

2.Handoutwithvocabularyrelatedtoenvironmentalproblems

3.Visualsrelatedtoenvironmentalproblems(picturesorposters)

Procedure:

Introduction(5minutes)

1.Greetthestudentsandaskthemiftheyarefamiliarwithanyenvironmentalproblems.Writetheirsuggestionsontheboard.

2.Showthevisualsrelatedtoenvironmentalproblemsandaskthestudentsiftheycanrecognizeanyofthem.

VocabularyIntroduction(10minutes)

1.Distributethehandoutwithvocabularyrelatedtoenvironmentalproblems.

2.Gothroughthevocabularywiththestudents,explainingmeaningsandgivingexamples.

3.Drillthevocabularybyaskingstudentstorepeatafteryouandusethewordsinsentences.

4.Writethevocabularywordsontheboardandtheirmeaningsbesidethem.

Discussion(15minutes)

1.Dividethestudentsintopairsorsmallgroups.

2.Askeachgrouptodiscussoneortwoenvironmentalproblemsfromthevocabularylist.

3.Encouragethestudentstoexpresstheiropinions,givereasons,andprovidepossiblesolutionstotheproblems.

4.Monitorthegroupsandprovideassistanceifneeded.

WholeClassDiscussion(10minutes)

1.Bringtheclassbacktogetherandaskeachgrouptosharetheirdiscussionabouttheenvironmentalproblemstheydiscussed.

2.Leadaclassdiscussionbyaskingquestionsrelatedtotheproblems,suchas"Doyouthinkhumansareresponsiblefortheseproblems?"or"Whatcanwedotosolvetheseproblems?"

3.Encouragestudentstosharetheirownexperiencesandideas.

WritingActivity(15minutes)

1.Giveeachstudentapieceofpaperandaskthemtochooseoneoftheenvironmentalproblemsdiscussed.

2.Instructthestudentstowriteashortparagraphexpressingtheiropiniononthechosenissue.

3.Encouragethestudentstousethevocabularywordsfromthehandoutandprovidereasonsandsolutionsintheirwriting.

4.Collecttheparagraphsandprovidefeedbackongrammar,vocabulary,andcontent.

Conclusion(5minutes)

1.Wrapupthelessonbysummarizingthemainpointsdiscussedandreviewingthevocabularyrelatedtoenvironmentalproblems.
