Writin1CoherenceInadditiontounity,everygoodparagraphmustalsohavecoherence.Coherenceisconnectionandconsistency.Acoherentparagraphisoneinwhichallthesentencesarerelatedlogicallyandgrammaticallytomakeawholethatallowsthereadertofollowthewriter’strainofthoughtstepbystep.CoherenceInadditiontounity,2CoherenceCoherencemeansclearandreasonableconnectionbetweenparts.Inacoherentparagraph,eachsentencerelatesclearlytothetopicsentenceorcontrollingidea,butthereismoretocoherencethanthis.Ifaparagraphiscoherent,eachsentenceflowssmoothlyintothenextwithoutobviousshiftsorjumps.Acoherentparagraphalsohighlightsthetiesbetweenoldinformationandnewinformationtomakethestructureofideasorargumentscleartothereader.
