In1985,theCoca-colacompanymadethedecisiontochangetheformulaofitsleadingsoft
drink.Thechangewasbasedonthefindingsofmanymarketstudies.Thesestudieshadshownthat

ThemostimportantreasonwhyNewCokewasrejectedwastheemotionalrelationshipthat
existedbetweendrinkersandtheoldsoftdrinkformula.DrinkingCoca-colahadbecomeatradition
fbrmanypeopleoverits99yearsofexistence.Thechangemadebythecompanywasnotonlyin
Coke'sformulabutalsointhetraditionalvaluesandmemoriesthatitrepresentedtothedrinkers.
“WehadtakenawaymorethantheproductCoca-cola.Wehadtakenawayalittlepartofthemand
theirpast."Thedrinkersrejectedthis“improvement",because“theybelievedthatCokestoodfbr
