Abstract

Abaloneshellisanaturalorganic-inorganiccompositematerialwithexcellentbiocompatibilityandbiodegradability,whichhasbeenwidelyusedinthebiomedicalfield.Inthisstudy,hydroxyapatitemicrosphereswerepreparedfromabaloneshellbythermaltreatment,andcharacterizedbyFTIR,XRDandotheranalyticaltechniques.Theresultsshowthatthehydroxyapatitemicrospherescanabsorbgrowthfactorsofstemcells,andhavegoodbiocompatibilityandbiologicalactivity.Secondly,theorganic-inorganiccompositematerialofabaloneshellwaspreparedbyacid-dissolvingmethod,andcharacterizedbySEM,XPS,TGAandothertestingmethods.Theresultsshowthattheorganic-inorganiccompositematerialofabaloneshellhashighbiocompatibilityandbiodegradability,andcanbeusedasanexcellentcarriermaterialfornanoscaledrugdeliverysystemsandbonerepairmaterials.Thisstudyprovidesanewmethodforpreparinghydroxyapatitemicrospheresandorganic-inorganiccompositematerialsfromabaloneshells,andexplorestheapplicationprospectsofabaloneshells.

Inparticular,thecalciumcarbonatecompositionofabaloneshellscanbeusedtopreparehydroxyapatitemicrospheres.Hydroxyapatiteisabiomaterialthatissimilarinstructuretobonemineral,makingitanidealmaterialforbonerepair.Furthermore,themicrosphereshavethepotentialtobeusedinnanoscaledrugdeliverysystems,allowingfortargeteddeliveryofdrugstospecificareasofthebody.
