1611and1612.Ifhehadgoneonmakinghisdrawingsintheyearsthatimmediatelyfollowed,we

knowthathewouldalmostcertainlyhavenoticedthatsunspotswerebecomingfewerandsmaller.

Buthebecameinterestedinotherthingsandsohefailedtorecognizethatthereisakindof

long-termcycleinsunspotactivity,thesunspotsincreasinganddecreasingastheyearsgoon.
