istheobligationforabusinessto:maximizeitspositiveimpactminimizeitsnegativeimpactonsociety.
(企业的)社会责任是指企业必须承担的责任,尽量扩大其对社会的积极影响,减少对社会的负面影响。helptoimprovesocietyhelptosolvesocialproblemsThiscontrastswiththetraditionalroleinwhichcompaniesconsideredonlytheprofitsoftheirbusinessactivity.Topic1:ThesocialresponsibilityofbusinessAdvocates
ofsocialconcernbelievethatbusinessshouldtakeanactiveroleinimprovingsocietyandsolvingsocialproblems.Theybelievethatbusiness,byworkingtoimprovetheoverallsociety,canoftenimprovetheiroperationandprofitsinthelongrun.Inmanycases,acompanywillmakegreaterprofitsinthelongrunifitconsidersbenefitstosociety.ForexampleCustomeractuallyvoteforproductsandcompanieswhentheymakeapurchase.Ifaproductispricedfairly,satisfiestheirneedsandhasnonegativesideeffects,Iftheproductfailsorhasnegativesideeffects(负面的副作用),theywillprobablyselectanotherproductandmaybecomesoangryatthemanufacturerthattheyneverpurchaseanymore.Socialconcerncanalsobenefitshort-runprofits(短期利润)
becauseofcurrentpublicexpectations.Becausethepublicnowexpectsbusinesstobenefitsociety,afirmthatmaintainsagoodrecordwillfinditeasiertohirebetteremployeesandwinmorecustomers.Althoughsocialresponsibilitymayseemanabstractidea,managersconsideritonadailybasisastheydealwithrealissues.Tobesuccessful,abusinessmustmonitorthechangesandneedsinsociety(密切注意社会的变化和需求)inordertobehaveinasociallyresponsibleway.Topic2:Whyactinasociallyresponsibleway?1.Societyprovidesconditionsforbusinessestoexist.-socialsettingincludinglaws,customs,etc.-othersocialandculturalnorms-professional/technicalpersonnel-laborItisonlyrightforbusinessestoservesociety’sgoals.2.Businessesareacomponentofsociety.Asoverallsocialconditionsimprove,allthecomponentsofsociety–includingbusinesses–willbenefit.3.Tobesociallyresponsiblealsobenefitsbusinesses.Customersshun(避开,回避)

ofbuyer’srightsiscalledconsumerism.Butasconsumersdealwithbusiness,someseriousproblemsoccur,andtherearemoreandmorecomplaintsfromthefilesofaconsumerprotectionagency:“whenIboughtthiscoffeemaker,theysaidsatisfactionguaranteed,butIhavebeentryingtoreturnitforthreeweeksandthecompanyrefusestogivemymoneyback.”Andlikethisissues……Why????Inmanycountries,consumerlegislation(消费立法)encompassesfourbasicareas:Therighttosafety(安全的权利)Therighttobeinformed(知情的权利)Therighttochoose(选择的权利)Therighttobeheard(投诉的权利)thefourbasicareasofconsumerismConsumerismRighttoSafetyRighttoinformationRighttochooseRighttoBeheardTherighttosafety(安全的权利)Therighttosafetymeansthataproduct

dominantthatitlimitsconsumers’opportunitiestofindnew,improved,andlessexpensiveproducts.Therighttobeheard(投诉的权利)Thisrightassuresconsumersthattheirinterestswillreceivefullandsympathetic
considerationwhenthegovernmentformulatespolicy.Italsoassuresthefairtreatmentofconsumerswhovoicetheircomplaintaboutapurchasedproduct.Inaddition,manytradegrouphavebeenorganizedtoprocessgrievance(处理投诉)
sothatconsumerscanappealbeyondacompany(不限于只在一家公司投诉)
iftheyareunabletosolveaproblemwiththemanufacturerorproviderofaservice.SoSo,mostbusinessrealizethatonehighlydissatisfied,vocalcustomercanhaveawidespread,negativeimpactonitsimageorreputation.Therefore,mostbusinesstryveryhardtoreduceconsumers’dissatisfactionandresolvetheircomplaint.Topic3
BusinessEthicsEthicsareprinciplesofrightorgoodbehaviors.Theyinvolvemoralvaluesastowhatconductisproper.Businessethicsinvolveothermoralvaluesexistinginsociety.Manyofourmoraldecisionsare
borderline(不明确的,暧昧的).Somepeopleviewacertainpracticeasbeingunethical,whileothersthinkittobetotallyproper.Manyinfluences
insocietydeterminewhichbehaviorisethical.LawsCulturalattitudes;Professionalcodes;Individualvalues;Homeeducation;EthicsandbusinessethicsEthicsvs.LawWhilemanyethicalstandardsaredefinedbylaws,thelawdoesnotcoverallunethicalconduct.Abidingbythelawdefinesaminimumguideforethicalbehavior.People’sethicalcodeisinfluencedbylaws,culture,professionalcodes,andindividualvalues.
Manyethicalstandards
aredefinedbylaws,butthelawdoesnotcoverallunethicalconduct.Itmerelytriestopreventseriousviolations.Still,mostpeopleagreethatabidingbythelawdefinesaminimumguideforethicalbehavior.Valuesareacceptedstandardsofbehaviorwithinagivensociety.Allsocietiesdevelopbroad-basedvalues
thataregenerallyacceptedbymostofitsmembers.Communitiesofpeopleusuallysharethecommonviewsandthisaffectsthevaluesandconductofbusinessinlocalareas.Althoughwemayallgrowupinthesamesociety,thereisabroadrange
inthevaluesweadopt.Individualvaluesvary
withthebackgroundofhome/education/ages/works/places/religion/environment.Butsomepeoplethinkitisallrighttomisleadcustomersinordertogetasale.Othersmaychoosetolosethesaleratherthanmisreprensenttheproductinanyway.Whileindividualvaluesvary,mostpeopleagreethatitiswrongtolie,cheat,steal,andpurposelymisrepresent(歪曲,误传;诬告).BusinessethicsEthicalbusinessbehavior: -lawabiding -providingsatisfactoryproducts/services -offeringreasonableprices -offeringfairwagesandemployeebenefits -raisingfundforcharities -protectingtheenvironment
