、29, three years after his flight over the North Pole, the American explorer, R.E. Byrd, successfully flew over the South Pole for the first time.for the first time 第一次time表示“次,回”,还能够说this time, last time, next time, another time, each time, for the last time我最终一次提醒你,假如你不快点,你就会赶不上火车。 I remind you for the

、last time that if you dont hurry, youll miss the train. Give him these photos next time you see him. three years after为 1929同位语,作插入性补充说明;REByrd 作 the American explorer 同位语。第20页2、Though, at first, Byrd and his men were able to take a great many photographs of the mou

、ntains that lay below, they soon ran into serious trouble. can. He took a photograph of his house before he left home.run into trouble = get into trouble

、ges.He is able to speak two foreign languages. I was able to swim to the bank after the boat turned over.can 和be able to 都能够表示能力.can泛指普通能力,而且只有两种形式,即:can, couldbe able to 则主要指详细做到了某件事能力,其形式主要是靠be 发生改变,所以形式比can 多能够说:I can swim. I am able to swim.

、 knocking at the door.第27页. be able to 后边接动词不定式表示一个实际情况时,其否定形式不是be not able to,而是cannot。如:Were you able to catch the first bus yesterday morning? No, I couldnt.7. Im sure he is able to correct his mistakes in grammar.不说: *Im sure his mistakes are able to be corrected by him.第28页1.Did
