Today I am going to talk about the first period in Section A of Unit 5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came? , whi

My presentation consists of five parts: analysis of the teaching material, analysis of the students, teaching methods, guide of studying ways, teaching procedures and teaching reflections. = 1 * ROMAN I. Analysis of the teaching material = 1 * roman i) Status and

3、functionThe topic of this unit is about unforgettable events. The first period serves as an introduction and a lead-in part. They will learn to talk about past events. The materials in talking are mostly from the real life and are familiar to students, so they will be very interested in it. A series

4、 of questions and a big picture are used to attract students attention. And listening and pair work are also used in this period. = 2 * roman ii) Teaching aims and demands1.Knowledge ObjectsIn this lesson, Ss should master the new words “storm、heavily、suddenly” and the phrases“ go off、pick up”. At t

5、he same time, they should know how to use the key structures: conjunctions when and while; questions and statements with the past progressive tense.2.Ability ObjectsIn this lesson, Ill mainly train the Ss listening and speaking abilities and develop the Ss abilities of communication by learning the

6、useful structures.3. Moral ObjectsFrom this lesson, the Ss should learn how to work with others and help each other, how to express their own ideas during the communication.4. Teaching keys and difficultiesAccording to the teaching aims, I think the focus of this lesson is the new expressions and he

7、lp the Ss to communicate with each other. The difficulty is to help the Ss make conversations freely using the target language.5Teaching aidsA tape recorder and a computer for multimedia use. = 2 * ROMAN II. Analysis of the studentsThe Ss have learned English for one and a half years, they can expre

8、ss their thoughts and communicate with each other with English well. And all the Ss will be interested in the topic, which is related to their real life. Its helpful for our study of this lesson. = 3 * ROMAN III. Teaching methodsIn this lesson, Ill mainly use the cooperating teaching method, and it

9、will be used in the whole lesson. I think its helpful to develop the Ss thought. Ill also use “situation communicating” method. It can provide enough listening and speaking situations for Ss. I think good teaching methods are the keys to success. = 4 * ROMAN IVGuide of studying waysIn order to guide

10、 the Ss better, develop the Ss abilities, in this lesson, the Ss will learn how to be a good language learner, and how to communicate with others. It will be very helpful for their learning in the future. I think good studying ways can help the Ss to be good language learners. = 4 * ROMAN VTeaching

RevisionFirst, review present progressive tense with these sentences: “What are you doing?”, “What is he doing?” “What is Tom doing?”Purpose of my designing: It is important to review the knowledge they have learned. This is prepared for the following past progressive tense.Step 2 .

12、PresentationAsk four students to stand in front of the class, and the teacher asks them the following questions as a reporter according to the pictures.“What were people doing yesterday at the time of the rainstorm?”-“I was in the library.” -“I was on the street.”- “I was in my house.”- “I was at th

13、e bus stop.”Purpose of my designing: This activity provides oral practice using the target language. I think it is much easier for the Ss to learn if I present the key structures one by one and they can master the structures quickly by doing this.Step 3 Listening practiceListen to the TV report and

14、circle the correct responses in activity 1b.Task 1. Play the recording the first time. Students only listen. Play the recording a second time. Students circle the correct responses.Task 2. Listen and number the pictures 1-5. Play the recording the first time. Students number the pictures in 2a. Play

15、 the recording a second time. Students fill in the blanks in the sentences in 2a.Purpose of my designing: It gives Ss practice in understanding the target language in spoken conversations.Step 4 Pair workStudents read the information in 2a. Then retell the story in a conversation between the boy and

16、 a TV reporter in pairs.TV reporter: Tell us what happened yesterday morning.Boy:.TV reporter: So, when the rainstorm suddenly came ,what were you doing?Purpose of my designing: This step is employed to make the Ss get the general idea of the story and know how to retell a story. At the same time le

17、t the Ss have a chance to practice their spoken ability. Step5. Group workRead the conversation in 2d in groups.Ask each group to find out the useful expressions and important grammar points. Ask several students to Role-play the conversation to the class.Purpose of my designing: Task-based teaching method is used here to develop Ss ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.Step6. Homework 1. Make up your own conversations. 2. Write down the important
