Youve made it through the first hurdle and have been invited to come in for an interview. That means that you have already found some way to stand out from the crowd. Now you want to build

2、 on your successful strategy and continue to be seen as an outstanding candidate. As you prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for your interview, here are some questions to keep in mind:·Why do you think you are the best person for the job?·What is it about this job that attracts you?

3、·Who will interview you and what do you know about them?·What is the appropriate dress and/or image for this organizationFAQsWhat is the most important thing for me to keep in mind in preparing for my interview?It is important to remember that your interview is a two-way process. Not only

4、is the organization trying to decide on the best candidate, you are also trying to decide on the best organization to work for. You will want to avoid appearing as if you are desperate for a job, so it is really helpful to remember that you also are interviewing them.What are some typical questions

5、that are helpful to prepare for?There are some standard questions that interviewers often ask. They include such questions as:·Where do you see yourself in your career five years from now?·What are you most proud of in your career?·What is your greatest strength?·What is your big

6、gest weakness?·Describe a difficult situation and how you handled it.Making It HappenReview your CVMake sure that you are completely familiar with all the information on your CV. Think about what questions someone might ask you based on your work history. Some examples of questions that might b

7、e difficult to answer have to do with why you left a job, or why you had a period of unemployment. Write yourself notes about what you are going to say and practice your answers.Do your homework about the organizationBefore you go for the interview, you will need to know about things that affect the

8、 organization such as industry trends, competitive issues, strategic direction and particular challenges or opportunities.Do your homework about the people who are interviewing youIf possible, you should find out what you can about the people who are interviewing you. The purpose of this is to disco

9、ver if there is anything you might have in common with them, such as attending the same school or being members of the same professional organization. If you learn as much as you can about the people you will be meeting, you can feel more comfortable with them and make some kind of emotional or inte

10、llectual connection.Identify the key points you want to make about your strengths and skillsWhen you prepared your CV, you developed a list of key strengths and skills that you thought would be marketable to an employer. As you revisit the list, think of at least one example that allows you to demon

11、strate that strength or skill to an interviewer. If possible, form on any concrete or measurable results that came out of your use of that strength or skillPrepare a list of questions that you would like to be answered at your interviewIn keeping with the philosophy that you are also interviewing th

12、e organization, you should be prepared with a list of things you can ask that will help you decide whether or not this job is a good fit for your personality and your career goals. Some examples of questions you might like to ask are:What are the key values in the culture here?What are the factors t

13、hat will help this organization be effective?What are the factors that would help me be successful here?How fast are people promoted and what are the criteria for promotion?What is this organizations philosophy and policy on professional development?Avoid asking questions about benefits and salary a

14、t this point, unless the interviewer brings them up. It is better to get the offer first, and then to negotiate your benefits and salary.Be enthusiasticKnow why you are interested in this job and communicate your interest clearly. People tend to employ candidates who are excited about the organizati

15、on. Do not tell the interviewer that you are interested in this job because it pays well. Instead, be prepared to talk about what you can contribute, how it will expand your skills, and why this kind of work would be satisfying and meaningful to you.Practice “image management”It is important to look

16、 good and to sound professional when you are interviewed. A common rule of thumb for interviewers is to dress at one level above the position you are seeking. For example, if you are at the supervisory level, you should observe the managers one level above you and base yourself on how they dress. Th

17、is may not be true in some organizational cultures such as advertising, the arts, or in an Internet or high-tech enterprise.Prepare yourself mentallyAthletes, salespeople, and many others prepare themselves for difficult or challenging situations by mentally picturing a successful outcome. Career counselors and career coaches will also do this. Give this person a list of questions that you think you are likely to be asked. Role-play the

If possible, videotape the role-played interview so that you can see your body language.Dont forget to say ”thank you”You should follow up each interview with a brief and personal thank-you letter to each person who interviewed you.Common MistakesY

21、ou misread the culture or the personality of the person interviewing youThe tendency is to underestimate the level of formality and professionalism that is required in an interview. Some interviewers even try to make the situation seem more like a social than a professional situation to catch you of

22、f your guard. If you come to the interview with a more casual approach than is appropriate, change your behavior as soon as you notice it. The interviewers are more likely to remember your behavior at the end of the interview than at the beginning. If the environment or the interviewer is more casua

23、l than you realized, dont worry. You are expected to look and act in a highly professional and even formal way in an interview. It taints the interview with a very negative feeling, and will leave the interviewer wondering if you would say

28、similar things about this organization if you left. This kind of criticism usually occurs when someone is asked why they are leaving (or have left) their former position. The best way to answer this is to talk about the future rather than the past, and to emphasize your strong desire for challenging
