The spatial data is an important component for a geographic information system, which accounting for 70% of the entire GIS or more, Spatial data management has been one of the
8、important research directions in the field of geographic information system. How to effectively store, manage and use spatial data that are the key issues, which is directly related the performance and effectiveness to entire GIS system.There are two ways for Spatial data management: spatial data mo
9、dels and spatial databases, In which spatial data model for spatial data organization and the design of spatial database provides the basic methods and theoretical basis. The research and development of Spatial data model, which plays a pivotal role in the field of GIS development and the constructi
10、on of spatial database.As the GIS is widely used as well as its own development, there have been emerged in a variety of GIS software, such as ArcInfo, MGE, MapInfo, MapGIS, GeoStar, SuperMap and so on professional GIS software, At the same time, there also accumulated large amounts of spatial data.
11、However, due to the various of GIS software manufacturers to use the difference data model, which lead to different GIS software can not access each other's spatial data, thus forming the "information island", and these make a valuable sharing of spatial data can not be achieved.Meanwh
12、ile, with the Internet and other technological development, different industries and different sectors urgent need to achieve Spatial data sharing. In order to achieve GIS spatial data sharing and interoperability, Open GIS Consortium (OpenGIS Consortium, OGC) comply with the requirements of the tim
13、es, introduced the Geography Markup Language (Geography Markup Language, GML) Implementation Specification.GML is geographic information coding standards that based on XML, which is independent of any vendor, any platform, and in order of geographic information including geographic elements of space
14、 and non-spatial characteristics of information modeling, transport and storage provides a unified framework. GML provides a good solution for spatial data modeling, spatial data sharing and operation ,and for the development of WebGIS provides a new way. Because GML itself is perfect, and its uniqu
15、e advantages, GML has become the spatial data encoding and exchange of international standards. Along with the development of GML, there has been a lot of GML format data, which also brings us new challenges, namely how to effectively manage and operate the storage of these GML data, how to set up g
16、ood indexing mechanism for GML Spatial, how to query GML spatial data, and other issues have yet to solve. So, this article is based on the above issue, using Oracle XML DB storage management technology to GML spatial data. To improve the spatial query and the associated operational efficiency, this
17、 article uses R-Tree spatial indexing technology to design an external database indexing schemes, and then with Oracle XQuery on the XML query support, through open source software NTS expansion Oracle XQuery, to support GML spatial data queries.The main research work will be done in this study:(1)
18、GML and its history are introduced simply.And spatial data model of GML is analysed. For the core model of GML, feature model, geometric model, coordinate reference system model, topology model, temporal model and Coverage model are expounded detailed.Then the XML technology which relates with GML and spatial data modeling by the core model which GML provides are introduced.(2) GML is a storage management way which based on coding of XML and combines XML date of the current XML data storage management way.Then the XML storage management of
