6、 continue to increase the importance of English. China also follows the footsteps of the times; continues to attach importance to English subjects. However, in the process of English education, our country has put a lot of energy into middle school and high school, but neglects the primary school. A

7、ccording to the provisions of the Ministry of Education, Chinas primary schools in the autumn of 2001 have been started from the third grade to set up English classes. In addition, there are a number of primary schools setting up English classes from the first grade in city. So English teaching has

8、been in full swing in primary schools in China, teachers, students and parents affirmed the importance of English learning. The quality of English teaching and learning in primary schools directly affects the later students English learning situation. If the basis is not strong enough, the students

9、English proficiency and grammatical ability will be affected. However, because of the teaching environment, the level of teachers, teaching mode and other restrictions, the quality of some primary school English teaching has to be improved. In addition, primary school students are unique English lea

10、rning groups; English teaching in primary school is different from that of adult English teaching. Therefore, the psychological characteristics of primary school students will also affect English teaching. Based on the analysis of above factors, this paper puts forward some strategies, such as stren

11、gthening the teaching staff, strengthening teacher training, using multimedia assisted teaching and optimizing teaching mode, to improve the effect of primary school English teaching and ensure the students all-round development. Despite the shortcomings of this study, the author still hopes that th

12、is study can help improve the quality of primary school English teaching, promote the development of Chinas education and social development in an all-round way.Key words: English teaching; problems; solutions摘 要随着英语在国际上成为一门通用语,各国也不断加大对英语的重视。我国也紧随时代的脚步,不断重视英语学科。然而我国在英语学科的教育过程中,对初中,高中投入了大量的精力却忽视了小学英语

13、教育的重要性。根据国家教育部规定 ,我国小学已于 2001年秋季开始从三年级起开设英语课。此外 ,还有众多有条件的小学校从一年级起就开设了英语课。所以英语教学已经在我国小学阶段全面展开,且英语学习的重要性也受到教师学生以及家长的肯定。小学英语的好坏直接影响到后期学生的英语学习情况,如果基础搭不牢,将导致学生的英语水平和语法能力都受到影响。然而,受到教学环境、师资水平、教学模式等限制,导致了部分小学的英语教学质量有待提高。此外,小学生是独特的英语学习群体,小学英语教学有不同于成人英语教学的规律。所以小学生的心理特点也会影响英语语音、口语和书写。本文在全面分析以上因素的基础上,提出了父母要关注孩子

This thesis puts emphasis on what are the existing problems in teaching English in primary school and puts forward the solutions. I will give both teachers and students some advice wit

20、h my own English teaching experience and thoughts in Funing No.1 Primary School. 1.1A Brief Introduction to the Current Situation of Primary School StudentsWhen it comes to the primary school English, some people believe that it is not important for children to learn in that the children are too you

21、ng to take in another language. They even cant learn their mother language well. On the contrary, most people hold that English is one of the most common languages in the world. As for children in primary schools, they are 6 to 12 years old. Children have more curiosity and energy. So they can learn

22、 piano, writing, painting and etc. And they are learning pretty fast. Scientific study shows it is the best period for a person to learn English in primary. In my opinion, it is good for children to learn English in primary school.As is well-known, English is an international language. It is necessa

23、ry to set up English courses for young learners. It is the requirement of social development and it can improve our English levels. At present, with the development speed of elementary English teaching in China, English teaching started late for most areas. On the one hand, the student is lack of th

24、e environment of learning English and primary school English teaching rarely get attention, which may be why there are a few lessons in primary school. On the other hand, English teaching is taught step by step, there is also practically no innovation in classroom. Children only study for the test.

25、They only do something mechanically under the teachers instructions. Their thinking and imaging ability is restricted. Last but not least, English teaching is in countryside is different from that of city. Some rural primary schools set up English lessons at grade 3 and some urban primary schools se

26、t up English lessons at grade 1. Ultimately, the imbalance between the urban and the rural is formed. All in all, the quality of English teaching in primary schools has been poor in China, especially in rural areas. 1.2A Brief Introduction to the Students in Funing No.1 Primary School Funing No.1 Pr

27、imary School is located in Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province. If you live in Yunnan province, you can know Funing is a backward, poverty-stricken region. There are many minorities, such as Yao and Zhuang. They are from remote mountainous regions. The research shows that lag of rural infrastructure

28、 impedes rural economic growth. Then the underdeveloped economy can prevent the quality of education from progressing. So the quality of English teaching in Funing No.1 Primary School is not high.Luckily, the government has adopted policies that provide teachers to be trained in some universities fo

29、r 4 months. So I have an opportunity to be a teacher in Funing No.1 Primary School. The school with the largest number is the primary school in Funing. There are about 3,000 students in the school. When I arrived there, I cant believe my eyes, how can the teaching building holding 3,000 students. Th

30、e worst of it was that many students complain the space in class. There are about 70 students in a class, so the classroom is too crowded to sit well. There are about 10 classes in a grade. However, there are 2 English teachers in a grade. There are only 8 English teachers in that school. Most of th

31、em are young women, without bachelors degree. Ultimately, the English class is too limited. There are only two English lessons a week in Funing No.1 Primary School. Sometimes they have the second classroom activity to learn English. But they have little chance to do it. Meanwhile, most students spea

32、k the Yao or Zhuang language. English is the third language for them. They cant speak Chinese well, let alone English. So they are not interested in English and have no confidence. All in all, as a rural primary school, Funing No.1 Primary School is a good school, but there are obvious shortcomings

33、in this school. 12. Literature ReviewIn order to know English teaching in primary school deeply, I look up many materials from China and abroad. 2.1 Studies AbroadIn recent years,Foreign language teaching theory especially emphasizes on stimulating the interest of students in learning and childrens

34、English plays a important role. It stresses the needs to let students in a relaxed atmosphere learn foreign languages. So that they think parents, teachers and government should devote to help children learn English Margaret Mathieson.Jory Brass(2016) talks about English in the United States. And Ma

35、rgaret Mathieson(1991) puts some views in England. After reading the passage Second Language Learning and Language Teaching by Cook, Vivian (2000), I found language teaching is important for teacher to teach in primary school. Models of Language, Models of Childhood in the English National Curriculu

36、m is finished by Alison Sealey(1998), I like his words very much. I agree with him that English curriculum involves in language and children. All in all, every country, regardless of place of origin attaches great importance for English teaching. 2.2 Studies in ChinaMany scholars study English teach

37、ing in primary school. Chen Qiong (2010) talks about the English class of primary school and give some advice. Li Jing (2009) focuses on how to draw students attention in English teaching. Wang Heju (2009) pays attention to rural education, so she tells us some information about localization of Engl

38、ish teaching in China. Zhang Qin (2009) focuses on the application of the interest-oriented teaching method in primary school. Gao Guifang (2007), He Caixia (2014) and Li Bing (2008) study on the problems and solutions of English teaching in primary school. Especially, for rural areas, Jing Shenzhao

39、(2009) puts some solutions to English teaching in Primary School. After reading their thesis, I find that its very important for us to improve our English education. So the author analyzes the problems and proposes some solutions to these problems by her teaching experience in Funing No.1 Primary Sc

40、hool. Only in this way can we improve the current English teaching in primary schools.3. The Problems in English teachingThere are many problems in English teaching, such as the problems of teacher, students, parents, school and government.3.1 Students Personal ProblemsIn the implementation of the c

41、reation of education, student is a main body to be treated carefully. Especially, as an English beginner, primary students will face with many problems, such as psychological problems, learning method, pronunciation, spoken English and writing problems. Students is bemusing by all the problems. Most

42、 of these problems wont be simply dissolved. 3.1.1 PsychologyThe childs brain is like a white board, a clever artist can draw a perfect picture on it, but once painted by a poor painter, it is difficult to well develop. During the age of 6 to 12, the children are innocent, but a little naughty. They

43、 dont know what is right and what is wrong, and yet they divide actions into the good and the bad. At the same time, they are sensitive, rebellious, jealous and easy to be lost. They are sensitive. Their self-esteem is high, but their mental capacities even go so far as the difference. For example,

44、if I criticize my students too much in class, they will be discouraged soon. Those pupils who were inattentive in class would fall behind.They are rebellious and fractious. They feel the urge to get rid of the tutelage of parents and teachers. They are against that adults regard them as kids. Anger

45、is common among children whose parents separate or divorce. They are angry at their parents and at the world. So they often break the class rules and dont hand in homework. They are jealous. They feel unhappy when others are better than them. A student was encouraged because of his performance, appe

46、arance in class. Others have good performance, but they cant get the praise. They will feel sad that teacher doesnt think highly of them. They will have no confidence in learning English.They are easy to be lost in life when they become disillusioned about the romance of something. They may have a l

47、ot of dreams to make. But in fact, no matter how hard they try, the dreams dont come true. Just as a child likes a toy very much, but her aspirations are not met, she is thinking all the time of that toy. She will be sad and go to school with sense of loss. They are lonely. Some students are withdra

48、wn and dont show much interest in school. Some students like ganging up but someone is isolated. Especially, there are some left-behind children in rural; they only stay with old grandparents. Without the company of parents, they are lonely. So teachers and parents should pay attention to the studen

49、ts relationship problems. All in all, childrens psychological development will affect their study or life. 3.1.2 Learning Methods During my teaching in Funing, some students work hard and remember new words fast. But they still fall behind. The result is not satisfactory. I think its my responsibili

50、ty, so I change my teaching methods. But in vain, they take a wrong way in learning English. The reasons are as follows.Firstly, students rote learning lack of interest. There is a famous saying: Interest is the best teacher. Foreign language teaching research shows that students learning interests

51、are directly related to their learning success and failure. There is no doubt that one of the most important aspects is to protect and develop students interest in foreign language learning.Secondly, they cant review the words in time and grasp the memory rules. They dont know the meanings of words

52、and they just remember rather than understanding the words. Most students are good at learning and accepting new words and knowledge. But in a drill, they usually forget it. Then because of the wrong methods, many students spend most of their time in remembering words, but in vain. Thirdly, they onl

53、y think about what the teacher let them do, instead of learning by themselves. So they dont have study plan. They are busy with homework and tests.Fourthly, they dont know how to use time scientifically. They are not good at proactive time arrangement. They spend much time in Chinese, maths, art. On

54、 the contrary, they spend a little bit of time in English. Then they cant grasp the structure of knowledge. They dont know how to introduce and reorganize the knowledge. Some students are good at unit testing, but fail in the comprehensive examination.Last but not least, most students are addicted t

55、o TV or games. They usually do their homework while they are watching TV or playing games. Once they fall in a bad study habit, then they fall behind.3.1.3 Spoken EnglishIn the English teaching, it is common to see that some students are good at writing examination; on the contrary, their oral Engli

56、sh is very poor. In their social life, some students have a good thinking, but they will scratch their heads as soon as they encounter the oral expression. And some students do more free talking smoothly. But in a formal situation, they speak haltingly and in a low voice. So the reasons are as follo

57、ws. Firstly, some students are afraid to speak English or speak in a low voice, because they worried about making mistakes. For one thing, they have poor ability of cognizance. They are not confident. For another, English teachers give students few chances to practice. Secondly, some students like shouting when they are learning new words or sente
