What we should do for our generationTime flies, it has been thirty four years since China insist on the policy of reformation and opening. During these years, China gained a lot from the world. On the contrary, China had been a booming engine for the worlds development and pace of globalization, especially in the economic crises burst out in 2008. Gradually, China has back to the center of world, and we have a closer relationship with the whole world. But who supposed to be the newly history maker of China, even the world? Obviously, it is us, the post 90 generation. On the one hand, we are the first generation who grown up with unshared love from our parents. Together with the post 80 generation, we are described as frivolous, selfish and lack of responsibility. On the other hand, we must take the unshared responsibility for the development of our country. Further more, we should not only considered China, but also the whole world. We should hold the confidence that we are the most promising generation of China, and China cant live without the cooperation with the rest of the world. So we should consider more about the issue of globalization, and regard ourselves more as the world citizen.Fortunately, we have already gained many satisfactory achievements: In the macro level, we have organizations like WTO, APEC and ASEAN. Due to these organizations, we have gained more reasonable and fairer surroundings, which ensure us to wide our relationship with other country freely and generally. Things happened are just as we expected: we are gaining political mutual trust with more and more countries. The leaders of mutual sides have made frequent high-level exchanges of visits and fruitful cooperation between mutual sides has been successfully carrier out. The worlds economy has gradually combined to on metal. Economic cooperation becomes more effective and efficient. Multinational companies are more and more popular, and Regional economic cooperation becomes more and more frequent. We also have more and more cultural sharing around the world. Such as the establishment of Confucius institute around the world, and all kinds of English speaking contests and forums. In the micro level: we have gained tiny things and customs in various fields. Such as the U.S. learned the final exam system from China, which is fascinating. China, to some extent, is still pondering whether we need to keep it or not. The whole world also learned the talent show from the U.S. These kinds of cultural exchanges are shaping our daily life, which make the world more tight and beautiful. We, as the post 90 generation, are destined to hold the responsibility of being good global citizens, and one of the requirements is that you need to have a good intercultural competence. As we all know, culture is the soul of one country. But how can we become a good communicator on culture?Take me as an example:two years ago, I went to America for a cultural exchanges program. It was a month-long program. Fortunately, those days were national days of America, and I was really impressed by the national spirit of America. During that particular week, people were dancing and singing everywhere, gathering up at the big square and watching films. I even enjoyed the first concert in Philadelphia. I can see their sincere loves for their country. So the first point of being a good cultural communicator is curiosity. You should be curious about things that you dont know. Getting to know is just a start.About one week later, we started to get more familiar with each other, and they began to ask some of their confusions about China. Such as: “what is one child policy”, “what do you know about the art of war”, “why China has so limited human right” and even some very sensitive topic like “the belonging of Tai Wan”. Then the problem appeared: I cant answer all the questions quite well. So the second point is getting to know your own culture. If you can not even know your own culture, then you are doomed to be a failure on cultural communicating. As time went on, we moved to the third week, and we started to take some special cultural courses. Gradually, we have some conflict on some issues. At first, we are trying to convince the opposite side person to accept ours opinion, but it didnt work, and we even have some fierce debate. Then we tried to think like the opposite side and tried to accept the opposite side first. The result turned out to be a win-win situation. So the last point is showing your respect first. Try to be modest first, and it will be easy for you to gain respect from others. If you can follow the three tips above, I think you have a good intercultural competence. As a global citizen, we should not only consider ourselves, but also the surroundings. But how can we gain a good outer environment? The first point, which I think, is to use your inter quality to create a great outer environment. Take China as an example: the soul opinion of ancient China is harmony. Harmony is also a very important theory in modern China. In 2002, the 16th CPC National Congress expressed the definition of harmonious society, from which can we indicate the harmonious world policy of China. As a single global citizen, you should hold this feeling and work for it; as a generation, you can gain the respect from other generations; but as a country, you can have more allies support you, which is easier for you to make a harmonious world. The second point is to break down the barriers between different nations, especially in religious and cultural field. Different nations have their own unique cultures and religion. During the history of human beings, every nation had its own unique living condition, which informed different life style for them. Everything has its own meaning of existence. We cant deny the production of history. As we all know, this is an era of globalization, we should stop conflicting on difference but seeking common ground while reserving differences. Together with other citizens to make the world a better place for us to live. The third point is to share happiness and sorrow with the rest of the world. As a Chinese, I want to thank the rest of the world first. In 2008, China had experienced a horrible earthquake in Si Chuan province. During that period, the worlds eyesight was focusing on China. Countries from all over the world were donating materials to China. In some degree, it is the worlds supports that help China overcome the hardship. Same scenes appeared in the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and Japan earthquake in 2011. Disasters are just a tiny part of worlds sorrow, it indicates that people are not only caring on their own countries, but also the whole world. This is the quality of a global citizen. The last point is that you need to really do something to give a progress to the whole world. Let the action do the talk! We have lots of good examples. Li Lianjie, a famous film star in China, also a Hollywood film star, established a Charities Aid Foundation named “Jet Li One Foundation Project”. He cooperated with a famous mineral water brand and helped thousands upon thousands of people. Also more and more none governmental organizations were established to help solve problems such as poverty, hunger, and conflicts. A good example appeared in 2012. A none governmental organization in America proposed a project about arresting Joseph Coney, a wretched warlord in Uganda. A video made by this organization made him become well known for his crime, and this even influenced the action of the U.S. government. Barack Obama have already send a military team to help local government, and People swear to arrest him in 2012. We are really trying to do something to help the rest of the world. This is a global age, which trends to combin
