吉林大学珠海学院本科毕业论文(设计)开题报告选 题The Translation Between English and Chinese Proverbs from Cross-cultural Perspective跨文化视角中的英汉谚语互译院 系外语系专 业英语学生姓名周恩幸指导教师陈碧梅本选题的意义及国内外发展状况: Language is the carrier of culture , which not only reflects culture, but also let people know more about culture. “As the most essential part of language - proverbs, has become a mirror reflecting the culture and become an indispensable part in cross cultural communication. In fact, proverb translating means intercultural exchanges”(Ma Ban, 2008:89). “Language is one of human beings greatest creations ,it is a carrier of culture, while proverbs are the highly generalization of human on the external environment and their understanding of themselves on the language, which is the essence of language”(Xu Yi, 2009:52). “As a symbol of national cultureProverbs, its language features and origin must inevitably have inextricably links with its cultural factors of historical background, religious beliefs, social customs”(Li Caiqing, 2008:90). Once people in the west had described proverbs as “What flowers are to gardens, spice to food, gems to a garment and stars to heaven, such are proverbs interwoven in speech.” English and Chinese proverbs bear the rich cultural connotations. Proverb is the essence in language, and its a window to see through the cultural differences between China and the west. Comparison and analysis of proverb translation is an effective way to interpret Chinese and western cultural differences. Understanding cultural differences will further improve the efficiency of cross-cultural communication. There is a relatively complete and systematic study in this field at home and abroad. Many scholars have carried out more in-depth research, analyzing the differences between Chinese and English proverbs. This thesis attempts to study and analyze different translation methods of Chinese and English proverbs from the perspective of cross-culture, especially from the angle of domestication and foreignization. Along with the development of globalization and fusion of Chinese and western cultures, great changes have also taken place in the expression and translation of proverbs. As a result, there appear many new proverbs and corresponding translations. Therefore, the analysis of translation between Chinese and English proverbs from the cross-cultural perspective plays a more and more important role in foreign language learning and scientific research for our country in the future. In the “Proverb Comparative Analysis of Language and Cultural Characteristics”,Feng Jianmin and Xu Lihong (2009,9:86) point out “proverbs are the oldest in human culture, its one of the most valuable types of language expression, and the crystallization of national culture that people use to express their inspired experience and feelings in production and life. As one of the idioms, proverb is the crystallization of language and culture, and people use it to summarize the experiences and lessons of daily life. Though usually short in form, but it has distinctive features of national culture. And, the characteristics of proverbs are affected by various aspects, such as living environment, living habits, national language, religion, and other factors.” Su Ming (2010:188-192), through classifying, illustrating, and anglicizing the three aspects of Chinese and English proverbs in origin, rhetoric, and content, he finds that Chinese and English proverbs share many aspects in common. Chinese and English proverbs both originated in the similar cultural background, which proves a lot of similarities in the process of formation. Language cannot be separated from the culture, so cant the language translation. The famous American translation theorist E.A. Nida thinks that the translators bi-cultural ability is even more important than his bi-lingual ability; for truly successful translation, familiar with two cultures is even more important than the mastery of two languages, because the word only in its role of culture makes sense. Proverbs are common in daily life as a form of language. With concise and vivid language, proverb records a nations knowledge, experience, values and beliefs and it reflects the wisdom and the spirit of a nation. Translator Tytler thinks that since proverbs are special language phenomenon , so it is often unable to find the corresponding proverbs in English for the primitive ones, that is to say,in a way proverbs are untranslatable. Thus, in this study, the author is going to apply some cultural strategies, especially the domestication and foreignization, to the translation between Chinese and English proverbs. Learning and studying the similarities and differences between English and Chinese proverbs can help people better understand the cultural differences between East and West. In this way, we can reduce cultural misunderstandings and embarrassment. 研究内容:Chapter One Introduction1.1 Research Significance1.2 Research Orientation1.3 Organization of the ThesisChapter Two An Overview on Proverbs2.1 TheDefinitionof Proverbs2.2The Characteristics of ProverbsChapter Three Cross-cultural Perspective, Proverbs and Translation3.1 Definition of Cross-culture Perspective3.2 Cross-culture and Proverbs3.3 Cross-culture and TranslationChapter Four Cultural Strategies for Translation: Domestication and Foreignization4.1 Definition of Domestication and Foreignization4.2 Previous Studies about Domestication and Foreignization4.3Merits and Demerits of Domestication and Foreignization4.4Application of Domestication and Foreignization to Translation of ProverbsChapter Five Conclusion研究方法、手段及步骤:1.
