Annex : DTraining Strategy for AJK Enabling Training for Quality Outcomes For Survivors and Builders of Social Reconstruction Prepared and Under Implementation By Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) Public TrustEnabling Training for Quality Outcomes : For Survivors and Builders of Social Reconstruction Training Strategy for AJK : ITA Public TrustA. The strategy for training is based on a modular approach so that there is avoidance of an information overload on field teams. It must reach out to the hearts and minds of trainees who are also the affected personnel. B. The strategy also recommends use of Government Trainers coopted from the Directorate of Training to provide support to the training effort. 18 Trainers have been identified by the Govt. of AJK for this purpose. C. It is essential to keep in mind the principle of “Care for Care Givers” as they need assistance too for their own well-being enabling them to pass on well-being to the trainees. D. All trainings will be preceded by a TOT in Dist. Head Quarters in a modular form (4 field trainings 4 TOTs) E. Orientation to ITAs whole school development program; key approaches to interactive learning, community participation, rights, health/psycho social support and envisioning are critical. F. Dignity and respect for trainees and trainers is also important to maximize the training G. All trainings will take place in cluster locations where local community will be given responsibility for local arrangements . building trust and sharing tasks. (all help required will be extended to them) The Department of Education and its Directorate of Training has been forthcoming in nominating its senior key personnel to form a resource pool for training. Each government trainer in the field will be provided an honorarium for services. Each trainer will have to attend TOT to be able to deliver the training. Categories of Trainings: Orientation to ITAs methodology of Whole School Improvement : implementation in emergencies Psycho Social Support for the Care Givers : managing and coping with trauma Survival & Care. setting up and running a Tent/Makeshift School Managing Curriculum; Exams &Assessment Strengthening Local Governance : SMCs and School Based PlanningCreating School Development Plans (SDPs) Planning for the future : promoting local governance 1. Three day Orientation to the Field Teams on ITAs approach to school improvement; ITAs integrated strategy and promotion of interactive learning/ puppetry, arts and crafts 2. One Day Training on Psycho Social Support to Trainers/Field Teams of ITA /Trainers from Dept. of Education AJK and other partner organizations (PAWB trainers) (84 people participated in 3 way rotational training 3. One Day Orientation on Survival and Care : How to Set up a Tent School: managing self and the school for Enabling Learning Location : Cluster Schools . Community/Camp Locations4. Two Days on Curriculum Management and Assessment in Emergencies Quality Assurance Milestones Location: Cluster Schools . Community Locations/Camps 3.One Day Strengthening Local Governance : Creating School Development Plans (SDPs) Location: Cluster Schools . Community Locations/Camps 4. Two Days Training Planning for the Future Location: Alternatively Dist. Head Quarters Cluster Schools . Community Locations/Camps Guidelines and Materials on Training in Emergencies will be provided to all trainers These are critical to ensuring that principles for emergencies are applied according to local contexts and needs. Many of these have been provided by Education and Protection ClustersTwo guidelines have been translated by ITA in Urdu : i. School in a Box & ii. Guidelines/Strategy for Education in Emergencies All TOTs will take place in Dist. Head Quarters: Bagh and Muzaffarabad Teacher Training Strategy in AJK : Enabling Training for Quality Outcomes Status of the Training StrategyOrientation to the Team : 3 Days Status : Completed (conducted by ITA) All ITA teams in Bagh/Muzz (25 participants: 4 Resource Persons/and Alif Laila Book Bus Society ) Orientation to Psycho Social Support : Twelve Participants from Bagh & Muzz. In Islamabad with Boston Doctors in collaboration with MoSWSE Status : Completed One Day Trauma Support : Psycho Social Assistance Without Borders (PAWB) Status : Completed (Isl. Muzz. And Mansehra: 84 participants from Muzz. ITA/Govt/ NGOs ) Survival and Care TOT : How to Set up and Manage a Tent School . for Enabling Learning Status : Scheduled for Dec. 30, 31st 2005 in Muzz. And Bagh To be followed by field training in clusters coinciding with delivery of tents/ supplies Field Training I: Survival & Care: One day TOT December 29th - 30th 31st December Location Muzaffarabad and Bagh . Resource Persons : Saeed ul Hasan and Fakhra Five Six Hour or One Day Orientation on How to Set up a Tent School . for Enabling Learning Sessions : 6 Time : 6 Hours Participants 20 -25i. Introductions : Ice Breaker .setting the context of participants .empathy breeding/expectations : vision for education looking beyond the emergency Duration : 40 minutes. (Post its or Cards) ii. How to set up a Tent School as an Interim Facility in an EmergencySetting up a tent; use of School in a Box : arranging the learning materials & equipment; Basic Registers; Duration 1 Hour (Guidelines on School in a Box and How to Mark an Inventory Checklist of supplies being delivered at the school. ) iii. How to cope with Trauma: care to the care givers /teachers and students. attitudes towards each other. fostering child or learner centred learning in all subjects : Psycho Social Support Training Duration : 1 Hour ( Handouts on Principles of Trauma Management) iv. How to undertake interactive teaching through specific subjects/different levels: Group Work (classes 2; 3, 4/5) Duration : 1 Hour (Handouts on interactive teaching/lesson plans) v. Housekeeping Issues . The essential habits Attendance Registers; Inventory Registers; Visitor Registers; Work planning Curriculum or lesson Planning Register: SMC Register Calling SMC or CBO meeting to address issues How to use School Fund for buying minor replacement supplies and prizes for children Duration : 1Hour ( Handouts Registers pages/SMC agenda setting/minutes for each participant; guidelines on use of school funds) vi.Planning for Now Tools for Quality A School Time table ensuring time for Health/Play/Reading(SRMs) An Action Plan for each one /school for the next 6 weeks Group Work and Individual Work Duration : 1 Hour (Handout a timetable sheet . blank to be filled out) At the end of the TOT, the field teams will identify jointly with the Govt. Resource Persons on availability. Each team will have one resource person from the government. At least 40 sessions will be held in the field (2 -3 per day with diff. field teams) Field Based Trainings : Key Check Lists Finalizing location of training : Mapping out on the cluster /UC maps Materials for Training: Poster Papers/Markers/Flip Chart Stand; Large post its/ card cut outs 5”- 7” Handouts for specific sessions Registration Sheets for participants Participant Materials: Folders/File/Pens/Pads/ Name Tags Handouts for all key sessions Target Group: Headteachers/Teachers CBO/SMC Representatives Resource Persons : 2 Field Coordinators & 1 Govt Trainer Outputs: School established with new ingredients and formsInputs/supplies delivered to schools with inventoriesRegisters functional & School Time Table in place for participating schoolsIndividual Action Plans Local Organization by Host Community : Money to be paid to them for the organizing tea and snacksOne break for tea with something to eat Rs. 50 - 60 per participantReporting forms for training Information filled on the format provided Each Training below will be designed fully keeping in mind the above considerations completed in Training III.Two Days on Curriculum Management and Assessment in Emergencies Quality Assurance Milestones Location: Cluster Schools .
