intheCaribbean

TheslaveswhowerebroughtfromAfricadevelopedtheirownkindofmusic.

WestIndiansmakemusicalinstrumentsoutoflargeoilcans.Theyhit

differentpartsofthedrumwithhammerstoproducedifferentnotes.This

typeofmusichasbecomeveryfamousinBritainandisverygoodmusicto

danceto.

ILFamousmusicians:

JosephHaydn(1732-1809)wasanAustriancomposerandisknownas”the

fatherofthesymphonyv.Othercomposershadwrittensymphoniesbefore

Haydn,buthechangedthesymphonyintoalongpieceforalargeorchestra.

HewasborninavillageinAustria,thesonofapeasant.Hehada

beautifulsingingvoice.AfterstudyingmusicinVienna,Haydnwenttowork

atthecourtofaprinceineasternAustria,wherehebecamedirectorof

music.Havingworkedtherefor30years,HaydnmovedtoLondon,wherehe

wasverysuccessfulolfgangAmadeusMozart(1756-1791)wasacomposer,

possiblythegreatestmusicalgeniusofalltime.Heonlylived35years

andhecomposedmorethan600piecesofmusioz
