school,wroteasongtogetherforthechildren,entitled“GoodMorningtoAll”.WhenMildred
combinedhermusicaltalentswithhersister'sknowledgeintheareaofkindergarteneducation,
'GoodMorningtoAll"wassuretobeasuccess.Thesisterpublishedthesonginacollection
entitled“SongStoriesoftheKindergarten^^in1893.Thirty-oneyearslater,afterDr.PattyHill
becametheheadoftheDepartmentofKindergartenEducationatColumbiaUniversity^Teachers
College,agentlemanbythenameRobertColemanpublishedthesong,withoutthesisters)
permission.Headdedasecondpart,whichisthefamiliar“HappyBirthdaytoYou".Mr.

Thestoryof“HappyBirthdaytoYou“wasanice,sweetoneattheverybeginning,butlaterturned
intoabitterone.Thereweretwosisters:onewasMildredHill,andtheotherPattyHill.The
formerhadgreatmusicaltalents,whilethelatterhadknowledgeofkindergarteneducation.Bu
combiningtheirabilities,thetwoproducedasongcalled“GoodMorningtoAir.Itwasasuccess,
andlaterpublishedinacollectionofsongsforkindergartens.
Thirty-oneyearslateramannamedColemanpublishedthesongwithoutthesisters'permission.
Tomakethingsworse,headdedasecondpart,whichisthepresentuHappyBirthdaytoYou”.This
newsongsoonbecamepopularandeventuallyitreplacedthesisters'firstpartaltogether.Then,in
1916,PattytooklegalactionagainstColeman.Incourtshemanagedtoprovethatsheandher
