TeacherDevotesLifetoGirls'EducationTheyear1995wasthedarkesttimeinZhangGuimei'slife,losingherbelovedhusbandtocancerafterspendingalltheirsavingstryingtocurehim.Beforethat,Zhanghadlostherparents.Feelingdesperate,sheappliedtoleaveDalicity,YunnanProvince,whereshehadworkedwithherhusbandasateacher,andwenttoteachinremotemountainousHuapingcounty,Lijiangcity,Yunnan,atotallystrangeplaceforher."Iwantedtofindaplacewherenobodyknewmeorcouldremindmeofanybeautifulmomentinmylife.Iwasbanishingmyself,"recalledZhang,whowasborninHeilongjiangprovincein1957,andwenttoYunnanProvincein1974.Thatdecisionchangednotonlyherlife,butalsothoseofnumerouschildrenlivingindeepmountains.Althoughshewasindarkness,shelituptheskyforothers,andhasbeenelectedasadelegatetothe20thNationalCongressoftheCommunistPartyofChina.In1997,shewasdiagnosedwithuterinefibroids.Hercolleaguesandstudentsdonatedmoneytohelpher,whichmovedherdeeplyandshewantedtorepaythem.Script"Ididn'tmakemanycontributionstothecounty,butbroughtsuchtrouble.Ifeltguilty.Icouldonlytrymybesttoworkasateacher,andIhopedtodomoreforthecounty,"saidZhang.Shenoticedmanygirlsdroppedoutofschool,andaftervisitingtheirhomes,shefoundpovertyandoutdatedperceptionshinderedparentsinsupportingtheirgirls'education,andmadethemgetmarriedatayoungage.Tochangethesituation,shemadeuphermindtoestablishahighschool,whichwouldofferfreeaccessforlocalgirls.Shetriedtocollectmoney,butfailedandwasregardedasaswindlerbymanypeople.Anopportunityforchangecamewhenshewaselectedasadelegatetothe17thCPCNationalCongressin2007.Afterreceivinganinterviewtalkingaboutherwish,thelocalgovernmenthelpedZhangrealizeherdreamandin2008establishedtheLijiangHuapingHighSchoolforGirls,withZhangasprincipal.Thefirstyearwelcomed96students,manyofwhomwerepoorlyeducatedbeforeenteringtheschool."Ifgirlsfromthemountainousareawanttoleave,wejustofferahand,tohelpthemflyouttoseeawiderworld,"ZhangtoldChinaGlobalTelevisionNetwork.Sincetheschool'sestablishment,morethan2,000studentshaveflowntotheoutsideworldandchangedtheirlives,andtheschoolhassurgedtobeoneofthebesthighschoolsinLijiang.ScriptBesidesherworkattheschool,Zhangalsoservesasdeanofthechildren'swelfarehomeinHuaping,wheresheusuallyvisitsandcaresfororphans.Overtheyears,ZhanghasreachedalmosteverycornerofLijiang,andchangedthedestinyofmanyfamilies.Sheisalonewithoutanychildren,butshehasbecomethemotherofmanyorphans.Zhanghasdevotedherselftothecauseofeducationwithoutcaringmuchaboutherdeclininghealth.Shehasrheumatoidarthritis,lungfibrosisandseverestomachproblems,butsheinsistsonworking."Forthelastdecade,ourPartyandgovernmenthavetriedhardtomakeeverychildabletoattendschool.Todaywe'veachievedthisgoal,"shesaidafterhearingthereporttothecongressonSundaydeliveredbyXiJinpingonbehalfofthe19thCPCCentralCommittee.Inthefuture,shesaid,shehopestoleadchildrenfromthemountainstothetrackofmodernization."Thisrequiresknowledgeandteachers'capability,andweteachershavetoimproveourselveswhileweteachstudents.Butwhateverittakes,weneedtoachieveitandnotdragdownourcountry'smodernization."ScriptPartⅢVideoViewingTask1TranslatethefollowingparagraphintoChinese.

PartⅢVideoViewing

It’sadream!Longtimeago,everyyearwhenIwatchedOscarswithmydad,sometimeswithmymom,mydadalwayssaid,“Son,yougetsomanymoviesawardsaroundtheworld,whenwillyougetoneofthis?”ThenIjustlookedatmydad,“Hahaha...dad,Ionlymakecomedyactionmovies.”Manyyearslater,IcametoHollywood,meetingwithsomebigstudios,directors(in)myfriend’shouse,Stallone’shouse.Thatwas23yearsago.Iseethislittlethinginhishouse!Itouchedit,Ikissedit,Ismelledit.Ibelieveitstillhasmyfingerprints(on)it.“Youkeepit!”ThenItalkedtomyself,“Ireallywantone.”Finally,Sherrycalls!Isaid,“Areyousure?”ScriptAfter56yearsfilmindustry,makingmorethan200films,Ibrokesomanybones.Finallythisismine!Iwantto...Iwanttothankyou,HongKong!Incrediblecity,myhometown,myhood,whomademe!China,mycountry,proudtobeChinese!Thankyou,Hollywoodforallthoseyearsteachingmesomanythingsandalsomakemealittlebitfamous!AndIthankyou,myfamily,mywifeJoan,mysonJaycee,Idon’tknow!Ijust...it’sanhonortobehere,and...it’smyhonor,thankyou,thankyou!Oh,oh,oh,oh...ah...ah...last[but]notleastmillionsofthanks,myfriends,fansaroundtheworld,becauseofyou,Ihaveareason,continuetomakemovies,jumpingawindow,kickingandpunching,breakingmybone.Thankyousomuch,thankyou,Oscar.Thankyou!ScriptCCCSectionSpeakingdevelopmentPracticalEnglishIntegratedCourse(I)Unit3InspirationalStory,StrugglingLifePartⅠSituationalConversationsTask1Readthefollowingconversationsaloudinpairs.Situation:BobandAlice,whoarecatchingupwitheachother,aretalkingaboutBob’srecentactivities.Alice:Hey,Bob,whatareyouuptothesedays?Bob:Hi,Alice.I’vebeenreallybusylately.I’mworkingonanewdesignprojectformycompany.Alice:Thatsoundsexciting.Whatkindofdesignareyouworkingon?Bob:It’saproductdesignforasmarthomedevice.I’mtryingtomakeituser-friendlyandinnovativeatthesametime.Alice:Thatsoundschallenging.Whatadvicewouldyougivetosomeonewhowantstopursueacareerindesign?Bob:Iwouldsay,neverstoplearningandexperimenting.Becurious,explorenewideas,anddon’tbeafraidtofail.Failureisapartoftheprocess,anditteachesusvaluablelessons.Alice:Thanksfortheadvice,Bob.I’msureyourhardworkwillpayoffsoon.Bob:Thankyou,Alice. PartⅠSituationalConversations
