RacismagainaffectedAndersonin1939.Whenitwasarrangedtosingat

ConstitutionHallinWashingtonD.C.,theDaughtersoftheAmericanRevolutionopposed

(反对)itbecauseofhercolor.ShesanginsteadattheLincolnMemorialforover

75,000people.In1955,Andersonbecamethefirstblacksoloist(独唱)tosingin

theMetropolitanOperaofNewYorkCity.ThefamousconductorToscaninipraisedher

voiceasuheardonlyonceinahundredyears”.ShewasaUSdelegate(代表)tothe
