WhatAreHybridCars?
Avehicleisahybridifithasmorethanone
sourceofpower.Wehavehybridvehiclesall
aroundussuchasdiesel-electrictrains,
diesel-electricbuses,andnuclear-electric
submarines.Maybesomeofyourememberthe
Mo-Ped,amodifiedbicyclethatuseda
combinationofagasolineengineandmuscle
powerofitsrider.Inasimilarmanner,the
gasoline-electrichybridcarisacombinationof
gasoline-poweredcarandanelectriccar.
WhatIsReasonforDevelopingSucha
ComplicatedCar?

HowDoHybridCarWork?
Therearetwotypesofhybridcars.Oneis
knownastheparallelhybridandtheotheris
knownasaserieshybrid.Bothtypesusethe
samecomponents,whichare:

•Generator(usedmostlyintheseries
hybrid)
•Batteries
•Transmission
•Intheparallelhybrid,thefueltank
suppliesgasolinetoengineandbatteries
supplypowertotheelectricalmotor.Both
theengineandtheelectricmotorcanturn
thetransmissionatthesametime,andthe
transmissionturnsthewheels.Anonboard
computercontrolsthesystemsothatthe
maximumefficiencyisobtained.Inaseries
hybrid,thegasolineengineturnsa
generator,whicheitherchargesthe
batteriesorpowersanelectricmotorthat
