Afteranalyzingthedata,scientistsfoundthatthesamegroupsofpeopletendedtoprefersimilaraspectsofthesamepaintings.Thesecharacteristicswerethengroupedinto“lowlevel”featureslikecolorandblending,and“highlevel”featuresliketheemotionbehindthepainting.

Fromthisexperiment,Caltech’ssystemwasthenabletopredictanindividual’sspecifictasteinartandorganizedifferentworksintoonegroup,accordingtothepaintings’featuresandvolunteers’preferences.

Inasecondtest,researchersrepeatedtheexperimentonsixvolunteers,showingeach1,000paintingswhileinsideanMRI–amachinethatscansaperson’sbrainactivity.Thetestrevealed(揭示)thatthedifferentfeaturesofapaintingaresenttothepartofthebrainthatdealswithvaluingitems,allowingsomeonetoformtheiroverallopinion.

Finally,theteamrepeatedthefirsttestonnewvolunteers.Again,thealgorithm(算法)wasabletoaccuratelypredictindividuals’artpreferences.AccordingtoIigaya,thisshowsthatthefactorsthatcontributetowhetherapersonlikesanimageareuniversal,notrandom.
