magneticfieldgeneratedbyavideoterminalmeasuresonlya

fewmilligauss,oraboutone-hundredththestrengthofthe

earth'sownmagneticfield.Theelectricfieldssurroundinga

powerslinecanbeashighas10kilovoltspermeter,butthe

correspondingfieldinducedinhumancellswillbeonlyabout

1millivoltpermeter.Thisisfarlessthantheelectricfields

Howcouldsuchminusculeforcesposeahealthdanger?The

consensususedtobethattheycouldnot,andfordecades

scientistsconcentratedonmorepowerfulkindsofradiation,

radiationshavebeenclearlylinkedtoincreasedcancerrisks
