Progress,accelerated.Sincewefirstissuedthisreporttwoyearsago,wecansharemorerapid,concreteprogressinourdiversity,equity,andinclusioneffortsthanatanytimeinourDEIjourneyatBain&Company,ajourneyofmorethan30years.Acrossregions,functions,andconsultingpracticesaroundtheglobe,practical,on-the-groundDEIeffortstoucheveryBainie.Fromourleadershiptoourmostjuniorinterns,wesharerealaccountabilityforthoseefforts.

Today,ourambitionismarkedasmuchbyouractionsasbyouraspirations.Wecontinuetoembedandscalewhatworksandfixwhatdoesn’t.WewanteveryBainietofeelinspiredbywhatwesharehere,forfutureBainiestoknowtheybelonghere,andforourclientstoseenotonlythatwehavetheexpertisetohelpthemontheirDEIjourneys,butthatourownjourneycontinues.

EmbeddingDEIeffortsacrossourfirm

OurDEIgoals—forourpeople,ourbusiness,andourcommunity—areglobalandambitious.Forourpeople,theyincludediverserepresentationandanequivalentlivedexperience.Thatmeansourworkforceandleadershipteamsshouldmirrortheirmarkets,andthateveryBainieshouldfeeltheybelongandbelieveBainisabestplacetowork.Weactivelymeasurethedegreetowhicheachofussaysthatistrue.

Inourbusiness,weaimtoembedourDEIperspectiveandtoolsinallourclientworkandinourworkwithourownsuppliers.WeaspiretobethepartnerofchoicefororganizationsmakingadifferenceinDEIinourcommunities,andwebackthat

goalwithaprobonocommitmentof$100milliontosocialjusticeandracialandgenderequity.

OurDEICenterofExcellenceandourTalentteamsprovidecriticalglobalsupportforallofthesegoals.Butnocentralofficeortop-downdirectivealonecouldinfluencethethousandsofdailydecisionsandactionsinvolved;oursuccessdependsoneveryleaderandeveryteammate.They,inturn,canrelyonourfirmwideDEIecosystem—strengthenedandgreatlyexpandedoverthepastthreeyears—ofglobalandregionalleadership,affinitygroups,andDEIchampions.DEIisembeddedinourtalentacquisitionandmanagement,marketing,legal,procurement,andotherbusinessfunctions.Strongfeedbackloopshelpuscontinuouslyevolveandimprove.

Ourclientsandourownbusinessoperationsdependonexceptionaltalent,andwearemakingsurewerecruitandhirethattalentfromasbroadapoolaspossible.ThatincludesundergraduaterecruitmentandhiringprogramssuchasourFreshmanLeadershipAccelerator(FLA);ourBuildingandSupportingExcellence(BASE)andBuildingEntrepreneurialLeaders(BEL)internshipprogramsforBlack,Latino/Latina,orIndigenousMBAstudentsandundergraduatesintheAmericas;andourAdvantageprogramforgraduatestudents.

IntheUK,weexpandedprogramsforBlackheritagestudentsandpartnered

withourcompetitorstocreatemoreopportunitiesforrecruitsfromlower

socioeconomicbackgrounds,whilealsolaunchingadiversityrecruitingprograminGermanyandAustria.

Globally,wesawparticipationriseinourLeadtoInspireprogramforwomenrecruits,andwemademoreofferstowomenateverystageoftheirundergraduatecareers,fromourConnecting&ResourcingEmpoweredWomen(CREW)leadershipprogramforsophomorestoourTrueNorthScholarships.InAPAC,weofferedaseriesof

Thrivingworkshopsforwomenprofessionals.

Toincreasethesuccessofournewhires,wealsoexpandedouronboarding

excellenceprogramstomorerolesandgroups.

Buildingbelongingandsupport

ProfessionaldevelopmentsupportandourfocusonbuildingtrustinBain’ssystemsandprocessesareessentialelementsoftheBaintalentjourney,butalonetheyarenotenough.AllBainies,andespeciallythosefromunderrepresentedbackgrounds,alsomustfeeltheybelongandcanbetheirauthenticselvesatwork.

Ouraffinitygroups,andtheprogrammingandcelebrationstheysponsor,areoneopportunityforBainiestoconnectwithotherswhosharesimilarlivedexperiencesandstrengthentheirsenseofbelongingatBain.ThepastyearsawthelaunchintheAmericasofournewestaffinitygroup,FirstGenerationandLowIncomeatBain(BFLI).WeextendedDiverseAbilitiesatBaintoSouthAmericaandEMEA.EMEAalsoexpandedexistingaffinitygroups,includingBlacksatBainandLatinxatBain,whilebothEMEAandAPACexpandedprogrammingforBGLAD,theLGBTQnetwork.

FromheritagemonthcelebrationstoregionalforumssuchasourEngagingAcrossLinesofDifferenceforumintheAmericas,weworktoensurethatthesenseofbelonginggoesbeyondindividualgroupstopromotelearningandallyshipthroughoutthefirm.

TohelpeveryBainiebetheirauthenticselfandtheirbestself,wealsocontinuetoinvestinwell-beingandmentalhealthviaofferingslikeB.E.S.T.andthroughexternalpartnerssuchasSpringHealth.

AtBain,wedefineourselvesbyourmissionstatementandouroperatingprinciples.Fromour“passionforresults”toourmutualpromisethat“aBainieneverletsanotherBainiefail,”ourprinciplesunderpintheculturethatmakespeoplewanttoworkhere.TheyarethereasonBainisconsistentlyvotedabestplacetowork.Thisyear,wewentastepfurtheranddefinedhowtoliveuptoourprincipleof“DiverseTeams,OneBain”—howtobeleadersandteammateswhoarecommitted,purposeful,curious,empathetic,andaccountable.Ourteamswanttoworkforleaderswhoexhibitthesebehaviors,andwhentheydo,theydobetter,morecreativeworkforourclients.

Toensurethatallourleadersmodelinclusivebehavior,wegofarbeyondclassroom-styletrainingstoemphasizeexperiencesharingandpracticalexperience.Leaders’ongoinglearningjourneysincludemicro-trainings,onlineresources,andopportunitiestoexchangeideas.Thispastyear’sAPACWomen’sLeadershipTeamForumisoneofmanyexamplesoftheBainleadershipcurriculumfocusedoninclusiveteamingandgrowth-orientedcoaching.

WhatwedobeyondBain’swalls

Wearetrustedadviserstotheworld’slargestcompaniesandsocialimpactorganizations,andwearecommittedtohelpingthemcreatelevelsofvaluethatsetnewstandardsofexcellenceintheirindustries.Doneright,webelieveDEIresultsinbetterbusinessoutcomesforourclients,justasitdoesforus.

Withourclients,wehaveconductedequitydiagnosticsacrosstheirprocesses,user

experiences,andoutcomes.WehelpthemscaletheirDEIprogramssothat,byofferingincreasedemploymentopportunitiesandgreatercareermobility,theycanaccessthetalenttheyneedtoachievebusinesssuccess.

BainhelpedfoundandlaunchOneTenintheUnitedStatesandsupportsBlackNorthinCanada,bothofwhicharecommittedtoincreasingeconomicopportunitiesfortheBlackcommunity.Manyofourclientshaveimplementedskills-firsthiringasaresultofourwork,advancingtheprospectsofBlackjobapplicantswhomaylackfour-yeardegrees.Alongwithmorethan60businessandcivilsocietyleaders,wesupportedlastyear’sTacklingInequalityreportbytheWorldBusinessCouncilforSustainableDevelopment,withourchiefdiversityofficerservingasoneofthecommissioners.

WealsoproducedresearchongenderparityinGreaterChina,EMEA,SouthAmerica,andAustraliaandcontinuedourindustry-firstinitiative,Stratos,tobringtogetherfemaleC-suiteexecutivesinfinancialservices.InAustralia,wefurtheredourcommitmenttotheAboriginalandTorresStraitIslanderpeopleswiththereleaseofoursecondreconciliationactionplan.

country-specificspotlights.Asithasforthepasttwoyears,representationofwomeninleadershipgrewagaininallthreeregions,reachingnearly40%intheAmericasandjumping4pointsinEMEA.Overallrepresentationofwomenalsocontinuestobestrongincountriesaroundtheworld,andwecontinuetoinvestingrowingourLGBTQrepresentation.*WithintheUS,wehaveseenincreasesinrepresentationforallunderrepresentedgroups,bothoverallandattheleadershiplevel.
