Resuscitation1WhyshouldwelearntheCPR?WhyshouldwelearntheCPR?2Why?Despiteimportantadvancesinprevention,cardiacarrestremainsasubstantialpublichealthproblemandaleadingcauseofdeathinmanypartsoftheworld.TheestimatedincidenceofEMS(emergencymedicalservices)-treatedout-of-hospitalcardiacarrestintheChinaisabout35to40/100000persons/year.Why?Despiteimportantadvances3Why?StudieshaveshowntheimportanceofimmediateCPRfollowedbydefibrillationwithin3-5minutesofsuddenVF(VentricularFibrillation)cardiacarrestimprovesurvival.
♦IncitiessuchasSeattlewhereCPRtrainingiswidespreadanddefibrillationbyEMSpersonnelfollowsquickly,thesurvivalrateisabout30%.
