TheUnit3ofPEP(People’sEducationPress)Englishtextbookforthird-gradestudentsistitled“Lookatme”.Inthisunit,thestudentswilllearntodescribephysicalappearanceandpersonalitytraitsofpeople.ThelessonplanforPartA,“Let’slearn”willintroducethebasicvocabularyandphrasesfordescribingpeople’sphysicalappearance,buildthestudents’knowledgebaseofEnglishlanguage,andimprovetheirlistening,speaking,andreadingskills.

Warm-up:TPRGame

TheteacherwillstartthelessonwithTotalPhysicalResponse(TPR)gametoenergizethestudents.Thegameiscalled“SimonSays”.Thestudentswillneedtolistenandfollowtheteacher’sinstructions.Forexample,iftheteachersays“SimonSays,touchyournose”,allthestudentsneedtotouchtheirownnoses.

Input:Let’sLearn

Inthissection,theteacherwillintroducekeyvocabularyfordescribingphysicalfeatureswithvisualaids,suchasflashcards,pictures,orvideos.ThefollowingEnglishwordsandphrasesshouldbetaught:

Hair:longhair,shorthair,curlyhair,straighthair.

Eyes:bigeyes,smalleyes,roundeyes,almond-shapedeyes.

Nose:bignose,smallnose,sharpnose,flatnose.

Mouth:bigmouth,smallmouth,thinlips,fulllips.

Tohelpthestudentslearnthewordsandphrases,theteachercanconductlistenandrepeatexercisesorencouragestudentstorepeatthewordsandphraseswithgestures.

Comprehension:MatchandSay

Inthissection,theteacherwillhelpthestudentstopracticeandconsolidatetheirunderstandingofthevocabulary.Theteachercanprepareasetofflashcardswithpicturesofpeopleandphysicalfeatures’labels.Thestudentswillneedtomatchthelabelswiththecorrectpicturesandsayoutloudthefeatures’names.
