GuidanceforPotentiallyDamagedBatteriesGuidanceforFordMotorCompanyElectricandHybrid-ElectricVehiclesEquippedWithHighVoltageBatteries(VehicleOwner/Operator/GeneralPublic)ElectricandHybrid-ElectricVehicleConsiderationsintheeventofdamageorfireinvolvinganelectricvehicle(EV)orhybrid-electricvehicle(HEV):•Alwaysassumethehighvoltage(HV)batteryandassociatedcomponentsareenergizedandfullycharged.•Exposedelectricalcomponents,wires,andHVbatteriespresentpotentialHVshockhazards.•Venting/off-gassingHVbatteryvaporsarepotentiallytoxicandflammable.•PhysicaldamagetothevehicleorHVbatterymayresultinimmediateordelayedreleaseoftoxicand/orflammablegasesandfire.VehicleInformationandGeneralSafetyPractices•Knowthemakeandmodelofyourvehicle.•Reviewtheowner’smanualandbecomefamiliarwithyourvehicle’ssafetyinformationandrecommendedsafetypractices.•Donotattempttorepairdamagedelectricandhybrid-electricvehiclesyourself.ContactanauthorizedFordDealerorvehiclemanufacturerrepresentativeforservice.CrashesAcrashorimpactsignificantenoughtorequireanemergencyresponseforconventionalvehicleswouldalsorequirethesameresponseforanelectricorhybrid-electricvehicle.Ifpossible•Moveyourcartoasafe,nearbylocationandremainonthescene.•Rolldownwindowsbeforeshuttingvehicleoff.•PlacevehicleinPark,setparkingbrake,turnoffthevehicle,activatehazardlights,andmovekey(s)atleast16feet(5meters)awayfromthevehicle.Always•Call911ifassistanceisneededandadvisethatanelectricorhybrid-electricvehicleisinvolved.•Donottouchexposedelectricalcomponentsortheenginecompartment,asashockhazardmayexist.•Avoidcontactwithleakingfluidsandgases,andremainoutofthewayofoncomingtrafficuntilemergencyrespondersarrive.•Whenemergencyrespondersarrive,tellthemthatthevehicleinvolvedisanEVorHEV.FiresAswithanyvehicle,call911immediatelyifyouseesparks,smoke,orflamescomingfromthevehicle.•Exitthevehicleimmediately.•Advise911thatanelectricorhybrid-electricvehicleisinvolved.•Aswithanyvehiclefire,donotinhalesmoke,vapors,orgasfromthevehicle,astheymaybehazardous.•Remainasafedistanceupwindanduphillfromthevehiclefire.•Stayoutoftheroadwayandstayoutofthewayofanyoncomingtrafficwhileawaitingthearrivalofemergencyresponders.Post-Incident•Donotstoreaseverelydamagedvehiclewithalithium-ionbatteryinsideastructureorwithin50feet(15meters)ofanystructureorvehicle.•Ensurethatpassengerandcargocompartmentsremainventilated(i.e.,openwindow,door,ortrunk).•ForvehiclesintheUnitedStates,notifyFordMotorCompany1-800-392-3673(thenfollowthepromptsonthevoiceresponsemenu),anauthorizedForddealerorservicecenterassoonaspossibleastheremaybeotherstepstosecureand/ordischargetheHVbattery.•ForvehiclesinCanada,notifyFordMotorCompany1-800-565-3673(thenfollowthepromptsonthevoiceresponsemenu),anauthorizedForddealerorservicecenterassoonaspossibleastheremaybeotherstepstosecureand/ordischargetheHVbattery.•
