thatcanbeusedforeithergoodorbadpurposes.Theabilitytoaccuratelyunderstand
howothersarefeelingmaybeusedbyadoctortofindhowbesttohelpherpatients,
whileacheatermightuseittocontrolpotentialvictims.Beingemotionallyintelligentdoesnotnecessarilymakeoneamoralperson.
Althoughpopularbeliefsregardingemotionalintelligencerunfaraheadofwhat
researchcanreasonablysupport,theoveralleffectsofthepublicityhavebeenmore
beneficialthanharmful.Themostpositiveaspectofthispopularizationisanewandmuchneededemphasis(重视)onemotionbyemployers,educatorsandothersinterestedinpromotingsocialwell-being.Thepopularizationofemotionalintelligencehashelpedboththepublicandresearchersre-evaluatethefunctionalityofemotionsandhowtheyservepeopleadaptivelyineverydaylife.
Althoughthecontinuingpopularappealofemotionalintelligenceisdesirable,we
hopethatsuchattentionwillexciteagreaterinterestinthescientificandscholarlystudyofemotion.Itisourhopethatincomingdecades,advancesinsciencewilloffernewperspectives(视角)fromwhichtostudyhowpeoplemanagetheirlives.Emotionalintelligence,withitsfocusonbothheadandheart,mayservetopointusintherightdirection.
